Prove me wrong.

Why would we ever play 4 v 5 on offense for more than one play at a time?

Herb is for sure more than a situational defender BUT he is NOT a guy that has to start or that you expect to be your #1, #2, or #3 option. If we keep this team together then Herb needs to come off the bench for a healthy Murray.

Its not that Herb is a situation defender but a healthy team means that he should be a situational starter. He is just not a guy that has to start every night, even though its hard for fans to process he can play 25+ min from the bench.

Said it at the time, we should’ve traded Herb instead of Dyson.

Not a situational defender, but he's definitely currently not ideal for the starting 5. However, im willing to give him 10 games to work himself back in and see if things change.

I know that will anger the Herb crowd but I hope he can turn it around quickly. Dumars is probably itching to find another big right now.

I think Herb is a plus defender but not sure his offensive game is average.

Dyson is slightly better on-ball but is worse everywhere else defensively and is a much worse offensive player who can't be played in crunch time of a big game.

Herb has playmaking ability and can hit FTs. He's not a negative offensively like Dyson. He's a capable complimentary offensive player.

*ETA: Dyson is also about to get more expensive than Herb.

well this is just wrong. Dyson is significantly better at rebounding and defense around the rim. Herb is an elite perimeter defender. That’s about it. Dyson is probably better at creating turnovers.

Agreed. Teams will be scoring 120 consistently on us. Our interior defense is so bad with Zion/Missi and outside of Herb, our guards will be letting teams into the paint at will this year.

I have optimism that we could fight for a 7-10 seed this year, but I have my doubts as well. This team would have benefited so much by having a big man that can play on the perimeter offensively that can also defend the paint even at an average clip. These are uncommon players, but it's what you need next to Zion for the team to actually stay competitive.

Completely agree and that’s why we’re a 25 win team. Any quarter we hold opponents under 30 is a success.

I love Herb. Just as a fan of his I'd rather have Herb over Dyson simply because I like him more. But, if I'm making a basketball argument it's not too hard to like Dyson more.

Just overall, Dyson is an equal defensive player to Herb. They are both two of the best in the league, it doesn't matter which area of their defense you want to talk about, they are both elite. It's a push there.

Herb is better offensively and Dysons offense was overrated on here last year simply to make a "Look how good Dyson is" point. His numbers were better almost solely because of volume. Though in his defense it did go up minimally in numerous areas. So he's improving.

I think it's safe to say that in 5 years, Dyson will likely be a better offensive player than Herb. Dyson is still only 22.

Very much so. I think this is definitely where Herb gives you more value. Dysons next contract is going to be big.

Agree with all of this. It would have been better long term by trading Herb instead of DD. We probably save a draft pick in that situation. Dyson for 30mil vs Herb for 22mil is a tough call but I'd probably lean Dyson. If in hindsight that also would include getting an extra draft pick back then yeah its really not much of an argument.

Dysons potential at 22y/o compared to Herbs at 27 y/o isn't even really comparable and I've been saying it for years. Herb's breakout year where he wasn't an offensive liability started at 25y/o. Dyson has 3 more years to mature before he even gets to the age where we said "ok yeah Herb is legit".

Jones is fine, but I don't think he's a starter on a good team. Opponents have figured him out to a point and how to attack him. He's a liability on offense. I believe he would be great as a spot starter or defender off the bench, playing more limited minutes.

Zion and Murphy should be our starting wings. Poole at the point, then to 6th man (microwave scorer) when Murray returns. That leaves a huge hole at the 4 that I don't think Queen is ready to fill yet. But we may not have a choice. It's a shame that nobody on our teams lifts weights. If Jones or Murphy could add 15-20 lbs and bench the bar, that would solve a big issue..

Bad take. Herb is what he is at this point but that is something everyone values. He’s a 10-12 ppg lock down wing defender.
