What are y'all's favorite hunting knives? I'm looking to upgrade from a cheap fixed blade old-timer & I'm willing to pay a premium for something nice.

One of my buddies got me a Benchmade Hidden Canyon in S90V a while back. It's freakin' awesome. I'd replace it in a heartbeat if I lost it.

Started using the outdoor edge knives last year and I'm a pretty big fan of them.

I have a Benchmade Steep Country and a Benchmade Saddle Mountain.

They both have a skinning/gut hook.

They have both clean around 4-5 deer and neither has been sharpened.

I have the S30V version, because I prefer the sheath that came with it, but I concur. It’s an awesome little knife once you’ve made your zip cuts. Knives of Alaska Jaeger is probably my favorite “do-all” deer processing knife though, and the Benchmade Steep Country a close second, though the sheath sucks for the Steep Country.

I prefer one knife that can do everything well.

First thing I did was call Benchmade to see if I could get the leather sheath that comes with the S30V version. I think it was around $15.

Buy yourself whatever kinda knife you want, and spend as much as you want, but do you know how to sharpen SV-90 or Magnacut?

What I mean is that there are some great quality knives that are less expensive.

I have several Benchmades and when I use something other than my Benchmade 940 to clean or butcher a deer, its My $20 Mora with a carbon steel blade.

Take a look around your area and find a knife maker that builds what you like. It's something you will keep forever and might as well buy a custom that fits, and most likely they will be built out of better steel than bought knives.

My personal favorite is a Sunfish Forge Damascus fixed blade. It's not imported steel as he makes his own Damascus. Don builds some fine pieces but be prepared to wait a year or more.

I always wanted a Canadian Special from Bark River Knives. I'm not sure they make them anymore.

As others have mentioned, get a Buck. I have a 110 folder and it is great. You can have them custom make one too. The Buck 113 is a good fixed blade. I generally prefer a folder unless it is very cold or I'm on (or in) the water duck hunting.

My knife on me all the time is a benchmade bugout. I sometimes break a deer down with it and it’s a perfect size and shape for it. I have a pile of other knives and made a few out of 1085 carbon steel. A great all around knife that stays in my door of my truck is a mora, they are cheap and are hard to beat.
Probably will pick up a Montana knife company whitetail next time they come available. Have a sketch of a knife I want to cut out of some 1095cs and make one day.
I have a knife problem.
Keep in mind that if you get a knife with a “super steel” that sharpening will be difficult with normal stones and ceramic so plan accordingly.

Yup.

Also, I use a zipper for skinning and it is a game changer.
