Why are new truck prices such an emotionally charged topic for some?

Is it because the truck represents a version of Americana that people hope still exists? Or something else.
I don’t see uproarious responses during discussions about the prices of sedans or cashews or airline tickets. But man the online comment sections on new truck articles get charged.

It's because the prices are absurd for the cheap build quality that exists now.

Trucks were a symbol of blue collar working men
They now cost 100 grand.

For most people, I think it’s just a relatable example of how f’d up everything in America has gotten.

Because it used to always be you could get a good truck for $20k which most people can easily afford. With luxury trucks costing in the $40s.
Now base line trucks are in the 40s and luxury trucks top 6 figures.

I’m not arguing against you, but pointing out that American trucks from the 1980’s that many people yearn for were lucky to make it to 100k miles before the engines died or they rusted to pieces.

On the contrary, I don't see anyone "emotional" abotu it as much as I see people logical/rational about it, in the sense that the prices are laughably and absurdly high for no real reason.

becuase the regular everyday average joe can still somewhat easily afford these things. If you just need a basic little arse car to get to work and home, there are plenty of options to by a no-frills, non-luxury car wtihout breaking the bank. They don't even make small trukcs anymore like the old S-10/ranger/etc so if you want a truck you're going to have to pay out the arse even for the most basic model out there.

It is simply an easily relatable example how absolutely insane prices have become.

The cheapest truck on the market is the Ford Maverick and it sells exceptionally well.

I'll bet you're livid over what they're charging for the booster seat option

Everything is expensive and everyone has to buy vehicles to get to and from work. Companies also have to buy fleets of trucks to do business. It affects everyone.

why do you read so much into people's comments?
well just how many discussions do you see about sedans or cashews? But to that end, I've seen quite a few discussions bemoaning both the cost and inconvenience of airline travel.

Had an issue with my A/C a few days ago and had the repairman come out and we got to talking and hit on the cost of vehicles. He told me his 8 yr. old work van that cost him $28K is now costing in the mid $40K range-----and that is for a naked van with 2 seats and a motor box cover inside.
He installed my all new system in 2020 at the cost of $6500 for a 4 ton Trane unit. He told me that same size unit is now going to run close to $9K now.
Things are just getting more and more expensive almost daily now.

It’s because a large majority of people buy overpriced trucks as an attempt to portray their status to everyone. In reality it is one of the worst ways to spend your money.
The emotional charge comes from defending their ill advised purchase that will lose money extremely fast.

Yeah and they are forcing new ac systems that don't last as long. Hvac is in worse shape than trucks.

And that's exactly what he told me. He's an older guy who has maybe a couple more years in the business and he's not happy in the direction it's been going.
He flat out said the 27 years I got out of my old system that they replaced-----while still working mind you-------won't happen again more than likely.
He was happy to see that the service call he had for my unit was the only one to date since they installed it almost 6 years ago now. I am diligent about maintenance and cleaning, so that plays in my favor.
