The Mariners' American League West title is potentially causing scheduling issues for the Seahawks that could result in a changed kickoff time for at least one -- and possibly two -- home games, Seattle officials told ESPN.

Both of the Seahawks' next two home games -- next Oct. 5 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and Monday night, Oct. 20 against the Houston Texans -- are on nights when the Mariners could be hosting playoff games.

The infrastructure of the area surrounding the Mariners' T-Mobile Park and the Seahawks' Lumen Field -- which are practically next door to each other, a mere one-tenth of a mile apart -- is not designed to support two games played at the same time and would create logistical issues that include a chaotic traffic situation along with overcrowding.

Therefore, if the two games in Seattle wind up being scheduled for the same time - a decision that Major League Baseball must first make -- changes to the Seahawks' schedule might have to be made.

Why does the NFL have to change something that was scheduled long before? Tell MLB to figure it out

If you have been to Seattle recently…. The traffic is a disaster and that would create a massive disaster.

Getting 30 miles north of the airport…..from pick up to destination…. Took 3 hours on a Thursday at 3PM

This city is totally
fricked if they have two major sporting events happening on the same day

They share a parking lot which has to be the biggest issue outside of staffing.

The Mariners should just play their games in Sacramento

Playoffs >>> midseason

Problem is I don’t see how they can even play same day. Even a 7 pm MLB start probably causes issues if NFL is at 1 pm

People in Dallas bitch all the time about the stadiums in Arlington, but the Cowboys and Rangers can both play on the same day and Arlington can handle it.

I guess that’s the benefit of having stadiums outside of the city core, plenty of highways and parking.

It's pretty simple. The Seahawks games were set in stone back in May. It is MLB's problem. They have to work around it. It is their problem.

there’s a myriad issues buried in this innocuous sentence that people in Seattle are fundamentally incapable of grasping. this a major American city, allegedly

Let the chaos ensue. Couldn't MLB just schedule the games when the Seahawks don't play?

MLB, NFL, and the city will all work together to find the easiest way to fix it logistically.
It's not going to fall on any one of those 3 to "figure it out"

The mlb playoff schedule was set in stone much earlier than May

The mariners were at competing at the top of the division from the start.

Has this ever happened, especially for a MLB playoff game? If so it would be crazy in any city, even Arlington.

There are a ton of benefits and economies of scale for having two pro sports venues next to each other in cities, especially for infrastructure and transit service. This occurrence almost never happens, and like others have said MLB can figure it out.

Yes, a Cowboys game & Rangers game at the same time has happened a bunch of times. Probably once or twice a year at the minimum. I was at a Metallica show with 95k people at Jerry World 2 years ago & there was a Rangers game the same night. That being said it is nightmare getting in & out of Arlington for events no matter what part of the Metroplex that you live.

This happens all the time. Some MLB stadiums aren’t even that big, 35,000-40,000. This seems absurd they don’t have a plan ahead of time. Not that crazy to do something like a noon game and a 6:30pm game for the other.

Seattle literally has all of their sports arenas right next to each other downtown. It is cool, but definitely a logistics nightmare

All of this is true, but it’s mostly irrelevant to the conversation at hand. Maps says it’s 17 minutes from the airport to T Mobile park right now
