Put in an additional lead blocker like a FB, on dives off tackle and sweeps, this could be the answer with an additional blocker when LSU runs the ball. They installed it a few times already and it was successful. Sharp blew up a few lineman and LBs. I'm sure we will see this, if so, LSU could run for 200+ yards. If we run the ball and control the clock LSU wins.

With this defense a ball control offense would be ideal

Jackson absolutely ruined a SELA kids life as a lead blocker in that game once. He honestly could make a good lead blocker as a head hunting ball carrier basically

That is a good point he played well to. If they get that extra blocker in to push the RB's down the field then burn them when they put eight in the box when they think we are running, fake it and hit a post or go pattern to our speedy WR's.

I think this offensive line is too soft to telegraph running plays. It is what it is at this point. You don’t just magically find a running game in the middle of the season. For some reason Kelly can’t establish that identity.

Would he be content with that role, though? We've all been waiting for him to go beast mode since he was a frosh, and it just hasn't happened.

It might be the right move for him, on this team, at this time. But is he enough of a team player to make the shift? Or will he diva up and pout about doing more blocking than running (not that he's getting many running opportunities as it is).

I'm not dogging the kid, I really just don't know.

That was a damn good, under the radar, portal addition.

Sharp can block LBs, but is way too slow of foot to block DBs. He's failed miserably at that on the edge this year.

Pyburn is like an old school full back, but if they put him in, it'll pretty much telegraph the run, so the best bet is probably Kaleb or maybe Donovan Green.

Yeah they need to use sharp, green, Jackson in more h back/ f back blocking roles. When they have the tes on the line they get worked, and when they try that backside motion block bs they get worked. Let them be lead blocks like you said. And to other post point, Jackson is a fing man... hes had 3 of the best blocks on the year. That has to show up in film.. and hopefully they start utilizing them towards easy wins on assignment, not just square peg round whole doing same plays getting 0 gain

Its not a lost cause but IMO the long developing zone blocking schemes out of a single back set are not going to work with the olines inability to hold a block. It seems like designed point of attack run plays with an extra blocker in the backfield would be more effective.

No doubt.

Guys like Delane you can watch his film and know exactly what you are getting.

But I like taking a guy we have played against. Its a real time, no shite audition for the coaches. I bet it happens again this next cycle (looking at you UF).

It's an offensive coaches dream to get a TE or an OL blocking a DB. Speed has very little to do with blocking.

The under the radar luck was Ole Miss out bidding for Luke Hasz who has been a non-factor for them.

I wouldn't consider signing Sharp it under the radar at all. He was one of LSU's top targets from the start and LSU's first signee; TE was a major position of need considering Mason Taylor declared and Pimpton transferred. Sharp has been a solid addition to the team.

We need to pump the brakes though. He's a solid threat in the passing game (as long as he can get up field, especially since he seems to be building a good connection with Nuss. But he still lacks physicality and is not a very good blocker. 1 play at fullback where he didn't even need to make a block doesn't change things (Pyburn did all the work on that play).

I said this every year Les Miles was here.

He ran the shite out of the football and played smothering defense.

He clearly understood this and people trashed his plan.

Funny to see it comes full circle.

Just go watch the tape. He really struggles out on the edge with faster players. Speed absolutely has a lot to do with blocking (or in this case failing) on WR screens.

The problem is that he either didn't know how - or refused - to do anything other than run a 70's three-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust offense when the rest of CFB had evolved.

Love Les for what he did for us, but won't forget that he also nailed his own coffin shut.

They put in Pyburn to blow up the edge on that long run by Durham against UF. Do that again.

And Les's approach ultimately won nothing of note outside of the SEC Championship in 2011. To the contrary, it probably cost a lot of good LSU teams greater success.

From 2009 to 2012 LSU and Alabama were close. Saban evolved with the game. Les didn't. That allowed Alabama to pull away.

Good recruiter. Better coach than people give him credit for. His stubbornness kept LSU from reaching its full potential.

There is NO reason this team should be playing "ball control" offense. Yes, the defense looks good. But LSU has a 5th year returning starting QB who is a possible 1st round pick. They have bevy of talented WRs and TEs. They have talented RBs who could be good in a running game approach that wasn't so weak and ineffective. The pieces are in place for this offense to be FAR better than what it has been. Because of that, no one wants to see a repeat of 2023, or even a team that fails to reach its full potential like so many of Les's teams because he was terrified of his own offense. He'd rather try to grind out a razor's edge win vs. an inferior team than try to have success on offense.
