A fake madeup commercial "local / country" type diner that is national?
Pretty sure every town that has this trash place has a real local country type of dish down the road that taste way better.
I went there one time and it tasted worse than hospital food and was boring as hell there. no thanks.

Breakfast there is superior and always consistent. Best pancakes anywhere. Bacon is thick cut. Biscuits, if that is your thing, are better than anything you can get at McDonalds.

Road trips with the grandkids. Husband does not want to go into towns or cities to eat so proximity at the exit is nice. Kids get grilled chicken and veggies instead of fast food. Then a road toy/new outfit/stuffed animal from the store and everyone is happy.

Havent been in a long time but breakfast was always solid

My kid likes the biscuits, pancakes, miniature guitars, and baby dolls all being under the same roof.
Every once in a while for us.

STFU. This just makes your whole post dumb. What kind of entertainment options are you looking for at a breakfast place? Name some breakfast places that provide more entertainment than a peg game, checkers, a fireplace, and a general store with unique items.
*Waffle House entertainment doesn't count because that is not consistent and is usually created by the customers.

It's consistent (at least it was until 2015 or so). I used to drive all over the south for my summer job delivering valves and stopped at many.

I do. biscuits are pretty dam good, breakfast is good. Wife and Daughters, Mother love the gift shop. Probably got 5-10 times a year.

I think the biscuits suck.

Old people and people who live in small towns.
CB's menu is about as generic as it comes. Basic breakfast staples and basic lunch/dinner staples. A lot of older people and people from small towns don't want to try the hip, new, place downtown with the "strange" menu. They don't want to try Curry fried shrimp or a pear and gorgonzola flatbread. They may not even know what in the hell gorgonzola or a flatbread is. But they know what pancakes and bacon are, or meatloaf and mashed potatoes.
My parents now fit in this category. If I'm in a new city I want to try the local fare. For instance, if I'm in Milwaukee I'm likely going to eat sausage and cheese or maybe at a German restaurant. However, the thought of trying Schnitzel is unfathomable for my parents...even though it's basically the same as the chicken fried steak they would eat at CB.
CB is "safe". They know what everything is on the menu. Some people like expanding their tastes to try all kinds of different foods. Some don't. That's where CB comes in as an attractive option

Used to be ok food...Now it's garbage.
The food is what Lil Miss Woke should be concerned with.

I've always liked the fried catfish.
And it's US farm raised catfish. Not the Swaii crap that too many local places, like disappointingly Uncle T's in Scott, pass off as their "fried fish".
Now that said...it's been a couple years since we've eaten at Cracker Barrel.

We used to eat there pretty often and really like their breakfast. For lunch and supper, country-fried steak and hash brown casserole are favorites.
We haven't been to the one here in Montgomery for a while, mostly because the service went downhill drastically. We have seen this to a lesser degree when we have gone in other locations while traveling.
This downward trend in service seems to be a trend across the country in many chains. Probably part of the reason people are opting for the "fast casual" format (stand in line to order, staff brings you the meal.)
I would be all over it if a Vicious Biscuit opened in Montgomery.

I rarely eat at CB, like once every 5 years perhaps, so no objection to the idea it's not very good.
But for every one really great:
There are 10 that are absolute garbage.

I only went with my grandpa bc he loved it. Now that he's dead and I'm only in my 40's, I have about 20 years before it's my turn to request to go there.

Who remembers when Cracker Barrel was a chain of convenience stores/gas stations (think Circle K) which branched out into prepared food and gifts (think micro-Buccees with a country kitch) before becoming a full fledged restaurant?
Makes me wonder if Buccees will venture into the sit-down restaurant territory if Cracker Barrel folds.
