Seems like it never got above a brisk 96.

98 has been the highest, so far

BR hit 99 last week didn't it? We all definitely had the indexes into the 100's.
But, all things considered, this hasn't bee too bad of an August.

It's been a damn nice summer so far.
Except for these storms on the coast every morning fricking up my snapper fishing.
This is how I remember summer as a kid. Bearable mornings, hot as balls mid day, rain more evenings than not and rain somewhere nearby every evening.

Climate change brah...don't you know the Earth's climate has never varied before humans started dumping CO2 in the atmosphere?

I agree. Anything is better than two summers ago.

Not it Baton Rouge, it wasn't. 2023 was when we had the long dry spell.

Baton Rouge doesn't hit 100° in most Summers. They hit 99° on August 21.

Think most areas of the South had a much milder Summer than usual.
For instance Austin Texas has seen a total of 16 days of 100 or + degree temperatures.
In 2023 we had 80.
I’ll take a Summer like 2025 has been any year.

Also way fewer mosquitoes in my neck of the woods than normal.
They have arrived now, but that’s way later than usual.

I was just thinking about this this morning. The temperatures have actually been about “normal” or average for BR. But to me it has felt cooler. I think that’s due to the recency effect. We tend to compare things to recent experience and the last two years (esp 2023) were significantly above average temps. So this year feels below average even though it isn’t.

Didn't think about it like that. good point. Decent weather next week too.
And normally weve had a few hurricane scares too by this time but its clear as glass in the GoA

Baton Rouge Airport had a warm bias last two years with their temperature sensor. The automated surface observing system (ASOS) was reading hot last year because of its location near the runways at metro Airport ( Kbtr). The national weather service in Slidell did not respond to my questions concerning the ASOS location the past two years.
I have worked with ASOS since 1993 so I know how sensitive the temperature readings are with this system. Apparently, corrections were made this past year and now the airport in Baton Rouge reads lower tha during the past two summers.

I spent all of the Summer of 2023 saying this. That airport station was consistently the warmest in the area, and at times it was substantially hotter than the others.
Now, it was still a record breaking Summer, but how hot it actually was is in question.
