A Baton Rouge man is facing charges after investigators say he staged a crash on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge.
According to the Louisiana State Police (LSP), troopers arrested William Baker, 34, of Baton Rouge, on Tuesday, Aug. 5, on the charges of staging a motor vehicle crash and filing or maintaining false public records.
The charges stem from an incident on June 24 involving Baker’s vehicle and an 18-wheeler transporting liquid nitrogen gas. It happened around 10 a.m. on the Atchafalaya Basin Bridge, part of I-10 West, near the intersection with Highway 3177.
According to LSP’s investigation, Baker passed the 18-wheeler in the right lane of I-10, then intentionally straddled the center line and abruptly applied his brakes, despite no vehicles being in front of him. This maneuver reportedly caused the 18-wheeler to hit the back of Baker’s vehicle.
Troopers said the 18-wheeler’s driver provided dash camera footage that supported their findings and contradicted a false written statement submitted by Baker.

If there weren't 7 million billboards telling people they'd hit the jackpot if they got hit by a big truck, these things would be less prevalent.

Many commercial auto carriers require dash cams now. They have saved insurers millions but some company’s still refuse to install them.

To pick a truck carrying chemicals, rather than a Walmart truck. Wow. I know nitrogen is essentially inert, but this dumbass probably had no idea. Next time, pick one with “1789” on the DOT placard. At least it’ll be fun to take pictures of the aftermath.

Guess I missed my opportunity for the insurance adjuster to admonish the motorist for saying they hit a fricking cow.

You almost have to assume at this point, especially in Louisiana, that every vehicle on the road has dash cams. To try that on an 18-wheeler really was dumb. I hope they charge him financial restitution for everything, and that everybody that was affected files a civil suit against Ole Billy Baker.

His insurance companies any will punt on coverage since he committed a felony. Judgement and five years hard labor.

No we don’t. We know exactly why.

Goes both ways. I know of a law suit where the owner of the company grabbed the dash cam card and destroyed it so nobody else could see it.

I don’t know if it’s mandated by insurance, but you’d have to be a complete f*cking moron not to realize that every fricking "big rig" in America now has front and rear dash cams. They just got tired of all this fricking shite happening all the fricking time and they started protecting themselves.
I bought a front dash cam about six months ago. I use it every fricking time I drive. Just too many assholes out there.
Additionally, there are too many a-hole cops who want to claim you were going 87 when you were going 1 mph over the speed limit. My dash cam records your speed as well. Therefore, if a cop ever does this to me. I can bring them to court and then ask the DA to charge them with falsifying public documents, a felony. I haven’t been pulled over in a while, but this did happen to me when I was younger. I was pulled over about two or three years ago for “rolling through a stop sign.“ I was 100% sure that I came to a complete stop. It was clear when the cop came up to my window. he was just looking for drunk drivers. He let me go with a "warning."

These scumbags and the attorneys that hire them should do hard time at Angola for either attempted murder or assault with a deadly weapon. They should get no less than five years. If you publicized that, this shite would come to a screeching fricking halt.

It’s against the law for 18 wheelers to be in the left lane on the basin bridge. They should both go right to jail.
