NEW ORLEANS (WVUE) - Gov. Jeff Landry has signed what he calls “the largest package of bills to stop frivolous lawsuits in Louisiana’s history,” aiming to lower the state’s notoriously high insurance premiums and crack down on legal abuse.
The reforms, passed during the 2025 legislative session, target both the legal system and insurance industry. Landry said the changes are designed to hold insurance companies accountable and rein in what he describes as a “lawsuit culture” that drives up rates for Louisiana families.

Longtime personal injury attorney Morris Bart, whose name and ads have become synonymous with Louisiana legal culture, issued a pointed but playful response after receiving the governor’s letter.
“I just received this letter from Governor Jeff Landry, where he boasts about signing into law ‘the largest package of bills to stop frivolous lawsuits in Louisiana’s history,’” Bart wrote. “I’m actually glad to see this package pass, as he can now stop blaming me for high auto insurance rates in Louisiana!”
quote:
Landry, in his letter, took aim at aggressive trial lawyer advertising, saying residents were “just as tired of the endless Morris Bart ads as we are of the GEICO lizard.”
“This is about restoring common sense and fairness to a system that hasn’t worked for working people,” Landry said.

Yeah, yeah. This hustle is called “two brothers and a stranger”. In this case the stranger is the public.

HB 450 requires plaintiffs to prove injuries occurred during the accident in question.
HB 434 bars uninsured drivers from collecting damages unless injuries exceed $100,000.
HB 436 prohibits undocumented immigrants from collecting general damages.
HB 431 amends comparative fault laws to block damages for those found mostly at fault.
HB 519 bans texting and social media use while driving.
I don't think Morris Bart is too concerned about these measures.

This is a great law. Yiu know how many fools drive around with no insurance and collect money from suits.

We all know doctors and such would never lie about back and neck injuries.

This is rich AF considering Landry has Gordon’s dick in his mouth.

I don't disagree, I just don't think it will hurt Morris Bart's business all that much. My BIL got in a fender bender with a woman who had state min limits. She sued and collected max limits from his personal auto policy and his $1M personal umbrella by claiming injuries that she likely already had to begin with. She's like 5'4" 220 lbs. That type of stuff happens everyday in Louisiana.
ETA: and in regards to this one "HB 450 requires plaintiffs to prove injuries occurred during the accident in question." I don't see it doing much of anything. There are groups of doctors in Louisiana who will write pretty much whatever you want in a medical report. I used to work as a claims adjuster and saw stuff from those guys everyday

Soft tissue.......soft tissue

None of these really change shite. Landry doesn't want real tort reform.

Until the schyster doctors that work for the attorneys decide a soft tissue bs injury is worth $200k.

No insurance? Not an American citizen? No money for you.

You should be sent to prison for driving without insurance. Its like you are getting scammed twice for paying for auto insurance.

Morris is just jealous that he didn't get invited on the hunting trip

I do think the laws will help but need to go much further. Better than JBE approach but not satisfactory Morris is just jealous of Gordon and Carmouche

Sure, I found him to be a credible historian.

It doesn't. He's just doing this to make it appear as though he's cracking down. Nothing will change
