Thomas E. Patterson, a Chicago lawyer, is the author of a new biography of Huey Long published by LSU Press. It’s called "American Populist: Huey Long of Louisiana.”
quote:

Q. Why are we still talking about Huey Long today?

A. Huey’s issues have resurfaced. They were buried for a long time in the aftermath of WWII when wealth and inequality was less of an issue in the 1950s and 1960s. Now it seems to have been resuscitated recently. Huey is relevant today. I think Donald Trump has read quite a bit about Huey Long or someone close to him has. You look at his tactics – “Make America Great Again” versus “Every Man a King.” The lengthy speeches, the demonization of his opponents, the appeals to the people. Huey Long and Donald Trump are opposite sides of the same populist coin. If you want to understand Donald Trump, you’d do well to read my book. If you want to learn how to defeat Donald Trump, you’d do well to read my book.

I do not recall any big defeats for Long except for September 8, 1935

Tell us how Huey Long was “defeated,” then. I’m legitimately curious as to how you will try to spin this.

Donald Trump has less than 4 years left and he will be out of American politics. Yes, he started a movement, but he will personally be gone very shortly. This guy is using hysteria to sell a stupid book. Donald is 79 years old and Huey Long was 42 when assassinated.

The lengthy speeches

Clinton was known for policy-heavy, detailed speeches, often covering a wide range of topics like the economy, healthcare, and foreign policy, which contributed to their length. His 1995 State of the Union, for example, ran over 9,000 words, one of the longest in history.

Probably just wanted to out do Bill.

Don't underestimate how deranged these academia frickheads are. It was bad 30 years ago and they've ramped up big time since.

Do me a favor. Listen to a Huey long speech on YouTube. Then listen to a Barrack Obama speech on YouTube. Tell me they aren’t almost identical to the point of plagiarism with a straight face.

Not you slo flo. We know you can lie with the best of them.

Not the point of the thread but I’m curious as to what this guy has to say about Huey Long that wasn’t already said by T Harry Williams.

That’s just one of the of many negative things they call Trump supporters, but it is the one that they think justifies comparing themselves to our troops storming the beaches of Normandy.

Hillary used deplorable in 2016, but after Trump won in 2016 they started calling supporters multiple terms ending in “ists” or in “phobics” along with the N word - Nazis.

He would like you to buy his book. You don't need to read it-just buy it.

If anything, it was Obama who copied Huey.
