OT to the Rescue to Save Education in America
Posted on 7/28/25 at 9:36 am

Spinoff of today's thread about teachers being cranky headed back to the classroom after "60 days off".
We at the OT have used our powers for good & for evil over the last 3+ decades. I say we use this thread, at least, for good:
How can we actually "save" &/or improve public education in the U.S. ?

Public education is great where my kids go

Eliminate the requirement that people attend HS. Also eliminate nearly all welfare and deport all illegals.
Kids (14 and up) who have no business in HS that are a disruption can fill the void of the illegals and work in the chicken factories and pick vegetables.

I actually like the public education where i am at. The school board still needs a revamp with less liberals trying to pull shenanigans.

Remove administrators and allocate the funding that is used to pay these exorbitant salaries to classroom teachers (either through raises or hiring more of them to reduce class sizes), empower teachers to enforce discipline in the class rooms, penalize parents for students not meeting minimum standards, completely abandon many of the new teaching curriculums and strategies and go back to basics on many of the core skills.

Stop teaching kids to pass a federal test and start teaching kids the basics again

1.) Normalize the return of "alternative" school sites for discipline problems.
2.) Rework special education and virtually eliminate "inclusion" classroom settings for the vast majority of students with special needs (not all). It's a feel-good arrangement and a gross misinterpretation of the "least restrictive environment" aspect of IDEA.
3.) Focus on fundamental math and reading in the very early years and essentially nothing else until students are ready. If you can't read in 2nd grade, guess what you're doing all day long?
4.) Rework math requirements in high school to require a year-long course in finance. We spend years on algebra, for example, but kids graduate not knowing the difference between an IRA and a 401k. It's criminal.

This harkens back the theory that all the rules/laws in place are for the lower 20% and students would flourish in a school system where the shitheads are gone.

Welfare is necessary as a social safety net but shouldn't be used to raise generations.

Imagine the decrease in your Property Tax bill if we eliminated public education.

It’s pretty obvious which kids are dumbasses/frickups/trouble well before HS. Most of the time you could just interview their parents to find out.
Let them get started using their raw energy and strength to earn a living early. Provide difficult paths back to a more educated/better life around 16-18 if they choose to change.

I'll admit that I was the shite kid in High School and had horrible grades, attitudes and troubles with the law. I was a disruption to others in the classroom and detracted from my peer's education. It wasn't until the 2nd semester of my Junior year that I had my wakeup call.

Bring back discipline. It's that simple.

Imagine the rising cost in private schools when they realize there is no public option and they can essentially raise the cost to whatever they want and they select which people they accept.

Imagine what low cost options would pop up to capture the profit available from those who aren’t wealthy. Economics says they can’t “raise the cost to whatever they want”.

Send the kids born out of wedlock to a separate school from the Christian kids

Parenting has to change. Nothing improves until that happens.
Also "teaching trades" isn't a cure to everything and is a lazy cliche people on here like to throw around without any idea of what's going on. A lot of the underperforming kids that get thrown in career education classes end up failing them or skipping them entirely. Believe it or not, most school districts have had functioning career education programs for the last decade or more. If they don't, they're usually sent to the local community college and fail there because mommy and daddy isn't there to hold their hand for everything.

Call your representatives and tell them to kill the Department of Education with legislation. Demand that they do not let it linger as an entity, even if defunded entirely.
That is the first step.
That is the first step.
