Texas has the Mockingbird - I respect them in some ways (Mimicking Skills, Bravery).. that said, they're basically the biggest jackasses in the bird world. I'm not so sure I like the choice.

Fun Fact: No U.S. state has a member of the Corvid family as their state bird. Not even the Blue Jay.

Not wild about them. I'm biased. It's not uncommon for us to have bald eagles in the trees in our back yard. We see them every day.

The state bird of Alabama is the Yellowhammer. I'd prefer the Golden Eagle, but a Yellowhammer is a pretty cool looking bird.

Straight from Louisiana.gov

quote:

The brown pelican is Louisiana's official bird. Pelicans are famous for their large bill, the lower portion of which has a pouch that can be greatly extended.

Why is a pelican "pussified"?

Are these even common in Alabama?
Our state bird should be the phoebe. I've got plenty of them around me.

I had to go check. The male Northern Cardinal is the most popular with 7 states. The Mockingbird is popular as well with all of our border states having the mockingbird as their state bird and including FL.

No state has the bald eagle or the Wild Turkey. I think LA has the most iconic of the state birds with the Eastern Brown Pelican.,

I be damned. I had to go to Google. The mockingbird is the state bird for Arkansas. Who'da thunk it
