For those who play instruments, what was your first instrument, do you still own it?

Mine was technically a Hohner Marine Band harmonica, had all the standard keys, chromatic, Tremolo, low C, etc. When I was nearly 21 years of age I decided to switch to guitar and I bought a new Les Paul Deluxe for around $700 in 1979....still have it.

It was a guitar that came from Sears and Roebuck.
it was beautiful, but it was a piece of junk.
My parents didn't know. All they could play was the radio, but they both were really good at it. Great music growing up.
That guitar is long gone, but when I see those cheap guitars with that purplish sunburst, I always buy them.

A pawn shop red Hondo strat copy. I don't even remember what I did with it at this point.

I used my Dad's Alvarez when I was young but I lost interest after 6 months or so. My brother has that old Alvarez now. Bought a cheap Fender acoustic when I decided to start learning again about 25 years ago and I still have it in the closet. A friend of mines son learned on it a few years ago

I still have and play my 1971 Conn alto sax. I'll post a pic in the other thread when I get the chance.

Mine was a Yamaha trumpet. My parents sold it when I was in college and not showing much interest in it. I really wish they hadn't. Now I just own guitars and a midi keyboard.

Alvarez Regent series acoustic guitar gifted by parents when I was 12. Still have it.

I had a little reed organ that had maybe 2 1/2 - 3 octaves worth of keys on it. Loved that thing.

My first guitar was an Alvarez classical/Spanish guitar. It's a great instrument to learn on due to the wide frets and nylon strings.
Unfortunately, my brother pawned it when I was out of town.

My first instrument was a viola when I was in fourth grade. It was a rental so it was returned after two years in the elementary school band.
My first guitar was a Takamine GX-200 in the early 1980s. Tak wanted to experiment with solidbodies in the USA market, so they designed a line that was ghost-built for them by Matsumoku. That little guitar was like a cross between a SG and a Soloist, an all-mahogany set-neck firebreather, and absolutely awesome for the money.
I gradually destroyed mine, unfortunately, learning how to rout, contour, fret, refinish, etc. during that 80s era of DIY customization. I eventually lost the DIY-molested GX in a move between apartments when I was fresh out of college. It was an absolute mess and probably glad it was no longer in my destructive possession haha. Here's what an unmolested one looks like ...
On a good note, we have a black Takamine GX-200 from the same era in the family today ... I found a clean used one when my daughter told me she wanted to learn guitar.

Same here except mine was from 1968. It was a hand-me-down from my uncle. I played that sax in Tiger Band.

I was given a non-resonator 5 string banjo from a guy in a parking lot, who needed space in his subcompact to load a bunch sports equipment. It was a Sears instrument that I took to a local music store asking how I could learn to play it. The fellow sold me the Scruggs book and album, which got me started. My sister has it somewhere in her house. I've since owned 2 others and still play that third one.

Same. I asked my grandmother if I could take it home from her house (one of my uncles plays) and she agreed if I would commit to taking lessons.
I took about three months of lessons and got bored (I was about 8 and the guy was hell bent on teaching me classical music...my house was a rock n roll establishment.)
Came back to the guitar when I was 13 and bought a Washburn Lyon strat-ripoff and an Alvarez thinline electric-acoustic. Still have the Alvarez...sold the Lyon to a Swedish exchange student in '95.

Roy Clark acoustic guitar he sold on TV. (I might have it in the closet)
I tried and failed with it twice with it before finally succeeding with an electric.
The instrument that got me actually playing was a ukulele. It taught me multiple chord shapes which eventually translated over to guitar.

First instrument I played was the piano in my parents’ house. I loved it and loved piano. Always dreamed one day I’d inherit it or beg them to let me put it in my house. Katrina took that dream from me.
Actual first guitar: cheap Blue Ibanez starter guitar that came with an amp. I gave it to my neighbors kid a few years ago.
What I consider my first instrument is my Epiphone Sunburst Les Paul I bought in high school. I love that guitar and I’ve customized just about every part of it. Yes I still have it and I still play it.

Drums. It was a 1993 Premier XPK 5-piece with a 14 x 5.5 steel snare drum. For a lower-end kit, those drums sounded great and would stay in tune no matter what. I bought the kit from my best friend and, after about six or seven years, I sold it back to him. He kept them until the 2016 flood killed them.
