I wouldn't mind the sightseeing aspect of riding one. Other than that, why?
They're more expensive for round trip travel and take 3x as long.

I did it from ny to Boston but wouldn't do it where a plane is cheaper.

Jackson to NOLA is a reasonable ride and you don't have to worry about parking.

Make a trip to NOLA without getting your car stolen or dealing with the traffic on the high rise.

I can park in Bay St Louis and go to a Pelicans game or an afternoon parade.

I always fly to NY because it’s cheaper than taking the Amtrak. I don’t understand why Amtrak is almost always more expensive than Delta. Makes no sense to me.

Little less than 4, probably 4 and change when exposed to reality.

Sure you could drive or you could ride and frick off for 4 hours and treat it as a weekend trip. More chance of me doing that than ever driving to Mobile.

After 9/11 I had to take an Amtrak from New Orleans do D.C.. It was something like 28 hours.

I was supposed to get a sleeper car, but they fricked up my reservation and I was stuck in a seat. I was seated next to a 300 pound lady who brought her own fried chicken to eat, and had a jimmy leg when she slept.

My only respite was getting drunk in the bar car.

28 hours later, when I finally reached my destination, I was half drunk and dirty as a Frenchman.

I wouldn't recommend it.

I prefer it over flying from Boston to NY because it’s more convenient vs airport and plane

That doesn't sound bad at all. The parking, getting out after the game, etc is pretty much why I don't go to more games. NO is about 2hrs and 20min drive from where I am, but its at least a 3 hr trip coming home because of parking, getting out the parking garage, etc.. How long is that ride from Bay St. Louis to NO?

Not sure but it's definitely easier than driving the whole way and as a bonus, there's a dog bakery right by the train station in Bay St. Louis.

I absolutely hate flying, just had a rough flight from ATL to DEN a couple of weeks ago. Dreaded the return flight the whole vacation. Thought, I'll check into Amtrak. It's a non starter, ridiculous prices and even more ridiculous travel times. It was between 80 to over 100 hours from Atlanta to Seattle. 30+ hours to Chicago. It's unreal in the U.S. our train system is so worthless.
