After seeing a second patient with embedded wire from a grill , I swore off wire brushes. Bought the kind that you soak in water , then use and it was totally ineffective. Any suggestions?

I use an off brand of Grill Rescue. Changed my life. You dip it in water and use it while the grates are hot.

This may not be the best thing going, but I wad up a ball of foil and use that to scrub my grill grates. It’s plenty effective. I swore off brushes a while back.

Question: What part of the body was it embedded? (Mouth, throat, intestine?)
The answer may make me throw away my brush as well.

I have a grill rescue but still default to my wire brush. I just inspect the grates after scrubbing to make sure no wires are stuck to them. Always thought that was an old wives tale, or something with a very remote chance of happening. Now you have me worrying

When I previously used a grill brush I’ve had a wire stick in my mouth when eating a burger. Once was enough for me.

Aluminum foil loosely, bunched up with some tongs. Inexpensive and effective.

Harbor Freight wire brush $1 each. You can always get those sacrificial grill bricks they use on flat tops.

Foil or onion/potato method.

They male those wooden paddles, but the grates eat up the wood pretty fast. I use a lump of smoker hardwood, but the grate has to be hot. If I'm about to cook, I use a half onion rubbed in oil after the hardwood.

This is what I do. It only takes a few seconds to check out the grates to make sure no stray wires are left behind and from my experience, any left behind are very easy to see and remove.

I've had a pork chop explode in the microwave due to a tiny metal bristle. I still use metal brushes but wipe the grates with an oiled paper towel after.
