You might be invested in the wrong stuff. Not sure how you could be down this much unless you started your 401k this year. The SP500 is up huge in the last 5 years.

$1,800/monthly in 401k and IRA and I don't look back. I've got 20 years left to work and invest, and the market is going to correct itself after crashing at least 10 times between now and then. Overall, my investment will increase probably an average of 8-10 percent a year.
My biggest complaint right now is I don't have the extra money to dump into individual stocks during these nearly daily crashes

This time last week I was down about 13% over a 2 week period. I haven't tracked my individual funds, but the overall picture ain't pretty. I'm glad I left a chunk in CDs.

How old are you? Just keep putting money in and don't worry about short term market swings.
