From the Thread on twitter

Demographically adjusted means
quote:

adjusts for gender, age, race, ethnicity, free and reduced-price lunch status, special-education status, and English-language-learner status

Legitimately curious what adjustments are being made?

You can make numbers tell any story you want. I have zero confidence in this data. This is Tater Reeves looking for a larger office.

Yeah, and why does it matter? Don’t they know that poor kids are just as bright as white kids?

Adjusting for race?

I am pretty sure I know the answer, but how, exactly, do you adjust test scores for race?

This sounds suspiciously like the subtle racism of lowered expectations.

They’re comparing whites to whites, blacks to blacks, rich to rich, poor to poor, etc.

So compared to what their expected number would be based on racial and wealth based demographics they are outperforming the nation.

But as you can see taking that adjustment out other states are still significantly ahead.

Regardless, it’s a true credit to the state and their educators for showing that the baselines can be moved and that it is possible to break out of generational poverty and poor academic outcomes with the right plan.

im assuming they are adjusting based on race to where its almost just the score of white/Asians. so not surprising. Overall when you look at test scores for white and Asian students in the US we have some of the highest scores in the world.

So they spot Mississippi a bunch of extra points for being stupid and then say hey, Mississippi is number 1? Study must have been done by people in Mississippi.

There's a statewide push to rename the spillway the "Boomer Carries Spillway ".

I know we can count on your support.

What does "adjusted for demographics" mean?
They only count the scores of white kids with family incomes above $100,000?
