Todd Golden was available same time Matt McMahon was, and Florida pounced on him. What a wasted opportunity.

I know all you Wade lovers want to engage in the revisionist history that there was no dark cloud hanging over LSU at the time McMahon and Golden were hired. It is easy to forget just how much the college landscape has changed in the last few years and how much control the NCAA has lost. The fact that no serious penalties came from this situation doesn’t mean none were expected at the time. Many of you have this idea that Woodward let his ego drive him to wanting to put his mark on the program, but fail to acknowledge how McMahon does not fit the mold of a typical Woodward hire. He was no Kelly, Jay Johnson, Kim Mulkey, or Jimbo Fisher with a proven track record at the highest level of the sport. There is a reason he had to take a flyer on McMahon and give him above market value job security. That is the same reason Golden wasn’t going to take the LSU job over the Florida job.

Golden went to a program that has had more success and didn’t have allegations against it.

McMahon and Murray State beat Golden and San Francisco during that cycle IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT. Nobody ever brings that up though

Nope. Morant was on the team the year before that beat Marquette IN THE NCAA TOURNAMENT. The year after when he and KJ Williams and Juice Hill was when they beat San Fran

Knowing us we would’ve fired him anyway amidst the scandal he was involved in

McMahon is was a good hire on paper. Now that the paper has been read, it is clear that he fricking sucks. Golden is better.

Hey! I see what you did there! How clever! I’ve never seen that before! His name is McMahon see and Hallman was a losing football coach see and so you combined them see and made McHallman! Wow! Nobody’s ever thought of that! Are you sure you’re not a best selling novelist?

Todd Golden’s resume sucked when he was hired at Florida. Good on them, but I’m not blaming anyone for not jumping at him.

And you think LSU could have competed with Florida here? How do you know that LSU didn’t contact his agent, to gauge interest?

Fact is LSU was facing potential sanctions and was a dumpster fire post Wade. Which program would you chose? LSU? Or a program that has won multiple national championships?

Same with FB and the shape CEO left it in.

Both programs were looking at sanctions

What coach would want to come to a program where the admin stupidly fires the coach when the precedent had long been set that non-cooperation is best for both school and NCAA?

There really isn't. He could have hired whatever nobody was willing to take the job for a reasonable contract and we'd be better off than we are now.
