This has likely already been discussed, but my property taxes went up 42% in the last year. Paired with another 33% increase for insurance, Baton Rouge is becoming less and less attractive.
St George, please come back!

You actually won’t pay less property taxes living in St George.

you got the goverment you voted for.

this is what happens when the low/no income segment of a city's population becomes a larger and larger percentage.
the actual producers must subsidize the rest

How much was due to tax increase and how much was due to property reassessment of value. Reassessment is what hit me the hardest.

I would assume most of it was reassessment...but that is completely subjective to what they are told to do. A tax increase that isn't voted upon.

Home assessments have gone up and with it property taxes.
We were talking about it at work yesterday. The difference in millage between city limits of Baton Rouge and outside of BR is about 1.5 mils.
Mils haven’t changed much in the past few years but assessments have. But housing prices also have increased.
My escrow went up $200//m in September due to home insurance increasing another $400/y for the second straight year and another $500/y for property taxes due to increased assessment. And my house is still assessed lower they what we paid for it so I can’t argue the new number.

Vote with your feet if you can...that's the only solution in a place like BR

The cost of living in BR is wild for how shitty it is, once you leave you’ll wonder why it took you so long in the first place

You don’t pay the CATS tax, but no there’s not much difference.

Landry wants Louisiana to compete with Texas and Florida. We are creeping towards no state income tax but higher property taxes as a result.

How about security, services, livability, leadership for examples?

No.
BR has abused us for too long and took it too far. Time for yall to support the bloated wasteful city on your own. You voted for it. Now live in it.
TLDR: frick you

Damn bruh. You sound sane. Do you really think that most of “us” voted for what we have going on now?

No longer a resident of Louisiana and didn't vote for St G. But I likely would have if there. But I still recognize that my rental property there would likely be a better investment if St G remained as a tax base for BR. My request is strictly selfish in nature. :)

400/y + 500/y should not = 200/month increase. What's up with that?

Taxes are supposed to be in exchange for services, not a siphoning mechanism for wealth to be transferred to areas that can't support themselves.
