Sweet 16 starting 5's by the team they played for as Freshmen

Can you guess who is who?
Here are the answers:
3 of the 16 teams don't have a single starter that they originally signed.
6 more of the 16 have just one starter that they originally signed.
I guess props to Purdue and MSU for keeping a squad together.
I think Duke is all freshman starters except for the Tulane kid.
NIL and open transfer portal makes it really hard to follow cbb, imo.

College sports sucks really bad now. I'm about to spit the bit.

That’s such a fricking joke when you look at it
Anyone trying to claim “school pride” with basketball is selling themselves a lie
Baseball is pretty much there too and football ain’t that far behind

And we wonder why the Tournament now sucks?
Little brother is just a feeder system for big brother.... Auditioning for a payday....goodbye upsets, your best players had a cup of Coffee at your Mid-Major.

To a certain extent sure, but many of these transfers have been on their teams multiple years. The only major rotation player that hasn't been at Auburn at least two years (or are true freshman) is Miles Kelly.
Bama is mostly the same, as is Florida.
Guys being overlooked and then being able to move up and play at a P5 school for 2-3 years is honestly the way NIL and the transfer portal should work for the players benefit.
The issue is more the unlimited transfer stuff, and that needs to be shut down. Players should only have one free transfer, unless there is a coaching change or probation involved.
And if that was the case we'd probably have more players sticking around for 3-4 years at their original program. As it is coaches are going the transfer route because otherwise they are just building up players for someone else to poach (see for example Tre Donaldson going from Auburn to Michigan for just one of a bazillion examples).

Kind of confirms that SEC teams were good at paying for their players

I agree. The unlimited transfer i think is hurting college sports more than the NIL.
You should one transfer and some kind of limitation on your 2nd transfer. Like he said above make some exceptions like the coach changes or stuff like that

Eh context matters, especially for programs who had recent coaching changes. Here's UF's starting five
Walter Clayton 0* out of high school with 0 P5 offers
Alijah Martin: 0* out of high school with 0 P5 offers
Will Richard: 3* out of high school with 0 P5 offers
Rueben Chinyelu: 4* out of high school with 5 P5 offers, signed with Washington State
Alex Condon: 0* out of Australia, only P5 offer was UF

Not if you have a specific narrative in mind.

That chart really brings the entire thing into focus. Comical.

LSU basketball is so shitty even their transfers don’t make it on good teams.

You and others can continue to say this over and over again, but it's not going to happen unless there is, eventually some sort of CBA where the players and schools/conferences agree to a rule. This issue has been litigated and the NCAA loses. Generally speaking, the transfer restrictions are considered an unlawful restraint on trade.
The abolishing of transfer "penalties" (i.e. sitting out a year) was coming prior to 2020, but at a slower pace. The NCAA, like so many other business, entities, people, in the great overreaction of 2020, unnecessarily opened up the box and allowed "free" transfers. Once that happened there was no going back. In fact, we are going the other way where college players (ex Diego Pavia) are arguing they should essentially be allowed to be "professional" college players in the sense there should be no eligibility tern limit. The argument being as long as a school will enroll a person as a student they should be allowed to play sports for the school.

The “fact that these schools won’t make them employees and sign a contract” is killing college sports .

Would have been hilarious if the Purdue one was not Purdue
