"So much for moving to Florida to pay less due to taxes...

That's because one Florida town has shocked residents by tripling HOA fees to over $3,300, according to The Daily Mail.

Winter Park Woods, near Orlando, raised its monthly fees dramatically, the Daily Mail reported, citing WESH. Longtime resident Lorraine Roy now pays $3,371.79 for her three-bedroom condo.

"This is way too high," she said. "And I love this location, which is why I stayed here all this time, through the ups and downs."

if your HOA does anything more than cut the grass in common spaces and keep people from parking trailers in their front yard, then its a money laundering scam.

Our hoa fees are that high and people complained at first but now they happily pay due to the safety they feel from the hoa swat team

Guessing it is insurance.. hoa for condos having that problem everywhere.. here in br that has become a significant part of the hoa dues :(

Lots of condos just down right having problems finding coverage and keeping coverage.

My mother pays $1800 mo in HOA fees in Perdido Key. This is up from $1200 since 2022 but it's her primary residence. I thought that was high as giraffe pussy but $3300 is insane.

What on earth are they getting for nearly $40K per year??

Whatever it is, it almost definitely wasn’t even worth $13K a year.

That makes it sound like rent is included in that number (as opposed to just the HOA fee).

Well an HOA fee and a condo association fee are different animals. In the case of the latter it will include insurance on the overall structure, repairs and maintenance to the structure, etc. But this seems insanely high. I’ll bet that some upscale high rise condos in places like Miami and Houston have condo fees in this range.

ETA that I glanced at the article and saw that the condo is the dumpy place shown in the pic. Something is way off here.

They could probably self insure for that amount of money.

100% of HOAs are nothing but a pyramid scheme.

The problem some of these HOAs have is they used to carry large reserves. The residents got mad and voted to disburse the funds and carry minimal reserves in cash. Then, Surfside happened and the state required these HOAs to maintain large reserves. So, they got caught with their pants down and had to jack up the monthly fees or hit everyone with an assessment.

Not really. The goal is to keep property values up by maintaining neighborhood standards

Condos are typically much higher because everyone co-owns the roofs, parking garages, plumbing, etc.

Also, that article is dumb. "Towns" don't charge HOA fees. Neighborhoods do.

There are no HOA fees in my neighborhood. What if you buy a house and fail to pay the HOA fees?
