I get that we are going to be more aggressive on the base paths this season, and overall I am a fan.

But, last thing we need is our only power threat breaking his hand on a steal. He moves pretty well for his size, but is not a real base stealing threat vs SEC catchers.

Stay still big fella, and when taking the extra base go in feet first.

Just wish he'd wear the oven mitt at least.

CJJ and Bear showing the scouts he's a 5 tool player...draft stock going up.

Power - hell yeah
Hitting for AVB - yep
Fielding - has improved each year and plays a solid 1st base
Arm - good enough
Speed - leads the team in SB

I agree. I have flashbacks to Tommy White hurting his shoulder on the basepath, not stealing, but sliding headfirst back to first. Not worth the risk of injury.

If he's stealing two months from now, it's dumb. Stealing up 8 against a nobody opponent is simply an opportunity to get it on film. It's more for future opponents to worry about. A young bullpen pitcher or catcher throwing it over the 1st baseman's head because he believes the runner is a threat could be the difference in a one run SEC game, which as we all know could be the difference in a regular season SEC title. JJ is playing 4D chess. Most good managers do this.

Bingo.

A real life example of how much smarter coaches are than the average poster here.

He’s just as likely to get hurt getting HBP, diving back into first, trying to leg out a double, diving for a ground ball or colliding with a teammate over a pop up.

I guess we should just put him on the bench so he has no chance whatsoever to get injured.

They're having fun against an outmatched opponent.

But to that end, the melt here would be level 11 if Jones came up gimpy from the slightly awkward 2nd stolen bag slide he had and was taken out the game.

This is strictly for the scouts. Coach & Jared are trying to counter the impression that he's slow. It's to improve his draft stock.

No one is going to think he is a threat because of this

All true, but this is a bad argument. If you are playing Russian Roulette, and I suggest you should stop, would you argue that you could get killed any number of other ways?

What a terrible “counter”. Good God. The chance of dying playing Russian Roulette is 1 in 6. The chance of dying in most other ways is 1 in tens of thousands.

Do you think that correlates at all to the point I made?
