Thoughts on the MLB automated ball-strike system?

I'm not a huge MLB fan but generally follow the game.

Strike zones aren’t one size fits all. You can still have human judgement and use the system for every pitch. Have a red and green light in the ump mask that only he can see. Also no light means too close to call and ump discretion. A challenge at that point plugs in some hitter parameters and forces the computer to make a call.

This is an area where I’ve never minded the human element. I don’t think I’ve ever been mad enough to blame a loss in the MLB because of balls and strikes. College…different story.
Baseball is art. Art is imperfect. Artists like Greg Maddux would feast on the extra inch an ump would give him. Artists like Tony Gwynn probably knew every ump’s K zone better than anybody.

I'll never argue that getting ball and strike calls correct would be detrimental to the game, but I'd personally hate to lose on-field umpiring in any way. It adds to the allure of baseball.

Yeah I didn't know it was a thing until I went to a Sugar Land game and it is awesome. Challenge takes no time at all and doesn't have much, if any, impact on pace of play.

Well, until they find a way to mechanize all the other calls the home plate ump calls (balk, safe/out at home, foul/fair ball, etc) I think you're fine.
Umpires being shitty at one aspect of their job sometimes, an aspect which we can fix, is not something we should endure because "that's baseball, man!" That's dumb.
Do you people who don't want this type of review in baseball also dislike the in/out review in tennis? The in/out review in volleyball?

People bitch about MLB umps but they are by far the best officials of any pro sport.

MLB umpires should be the best Sports Officials. They get 162 games a year. Basketball gets half that many games.
But Football officials only get about 10% of the opportunities to Perfect their craft that major league umpires get Every year.
Pretty easy to understand why. It’s all about the reps.
