Neither one can claim being part of Louisiana, so there's that.

The rumor around Texas is the closer you get to Louisiana the trashier Texas gets.

Texas would only take them if Barksdale was included. It'd nicely round out our resources.

NW Louisiana as a whole is more similar to East Texas than it is to the rest of Louisiana

However, the city of Shreveport itself has a decent amount of "Louisiana" culture, especially compared to East Texas. It's still LSU country, there is Cajun and Creole food available in restaurants, Mardi Gras parades. Hell half of my elementary school teachers growing up had Cajun French last names

Texas has better roads/streets and less litter.

Tyler is like a smaller version of Shreveport if Shreveport had its shite together.

They have some Louisiana overlap like the Mardi Gras parade in Jefferson and the Cajun Tex restaurant in Marshall. But they tend to have a lot more BBQ than NW La. We can compete with them on the number of tacos and Tex-Mex places.

I once walked into a small cafe 30 minutes across the Texas border wearing an LSU shirt, and every hat and boot wearing person in there looked at me like I was an alien.

It's interesting how the architectural styles can be so different in areas so close. Atlanta TX is just over the border, but it is full of the old columned houses in a style that you almost never see in north LA.

People in NW Louisiana tend to have family ties in-state. Folks often go see grandma and the cousins hours away in BR, Lafayette, etc., but they may not know a soul who lives in Waskom, Marshall or Texarkana that are less than an hour away.

Both the eastern and western shores of the Toloedo Bend Reservoir look strikingly similar.

It's a joke in East Texas that my husband and I were the only married couple not related. East Texas is pretty bad. News station used such bad grammar that we watched just to make fun of it. By the way when you talk to someone there's East Texas and then there's Deep East Texas! Texans know the difference. ??

There are more Louisiana expats and their kids living in East Texas than there are Louisiananians living in Louisiana. Louisiana is basically like Puerto Rico at this point.

Dallas is to North Louisiana what Houston is to South Louisiana. It's the closest major market with a decent economy.

I'll admit, it's very similar, but seeing as how Texas is better than Louisiana, I think that's a good thing.

I live and work in Shreveport. My family has property on the state line in TX where our eastern boundary is the official LA line.

It feels good to sit on that hill in TX and look down my nose at the poor folks across the road.

Then I have to go home and get ready for work the next day. Back in Shreveport...

I plan to move out there when I retire.
