Had to put my best friend in the world down today. 14 year old catahoula. Killed a many of squirrels on top of him and he blood trailed a many of deer.

None of that really matters because he was a family dog. He could be an absolute savage in the woods and then let my son try to rip his nuts off without him doing anything. He loved children and loved us. He didn’t think he was a dog but he was a savage in the field. Truly one of a kind.

If the lord has a heart, and I think he does. Our paw palls will be in heaven when we get there. My great grandfather was an old school catahoula man. I think he’d be proud to hunt my dog and maybe he’s already with him.

Love your dogs gentleman. The end comes quickly.

Sorry for your loss, man. The only trouble with dogs is they just don’t live as long as we do…Try reading “the rainbow bridge” if you haven’t already done so. It will take less than a minute.

Prayers for you and your family. It is an absolute blessing in life to have a great dog who is also a great companion. As has already said a dog can live the longest life possible and it's still simply not long enough.

Sorry to hear that. Good dogs never live long enough.

“Dogs’ lives are short, too short, but you know that going in. You know the pain is coming, you’re going to lose a dog, and there’s going to be great anguish, so you live fully in the moment with her, never fail to share her joy or delight in her innocence, because you can’t support the illusion that a dog can be your lifelong companion.
There’s such beauty in the hard honesty of that, in accepting and giving love while always aware that it comes with an unbearable price.” – Dean Koontz

I’m very sorry for your loss

Sorry man. Its rough. Lost both my labs 5yrs ago, and still think about them often. Even though you may not want to, best thing to do is get another pup soon as possible

One of the hardest things ever. I’ve had only 4 labs in the span of 45 years. Our current is 6. Sorry for your loss.

Hate seeing these threads but we know the time comes for them sooner than us when we bring them in.

And I believe we do see our pets in heaven when we get there.

So sorry man. It hurts down deep. But it sounds like you gave him and wonderful life, and in exchange, he did the same for you.

I love my dog. I can only hope that he goes easy when it’s time and that I’m reunited with him one day, preferably in my childhood backyard with everyone (dog and people) I’ve loved.

So sorry to hear that.

Mine is 13 (almost 14) and he's been the best dog ever.

I read not so long ago that you only get have a short time with dogs and you love them immensely in that time. But, they get to love you their entire lives.

Dogs are the best.

Petting my 14-year-old yellow lab now. He's got cataracts, hard of hearing, and stumbles from time to time, but still retrieved a few ducks this year. His time is close to an end, and I will be lost without him. Seems dogs of different breeds are still the same.

I know the feeling. I lost a lab mutt almost a year ago that was amazing. 14 is a hell of a run. A good dog is something a lot of people never get to experience. I just gave my catahoula riding shotgun a scratch on the head.
