Booked a Royal Caribbean cruise from Rome to Greece and thereabouts. But will arrive in Rome four days before cruise departs.

Trying to figure out where to stay in Rome. Have no idea which hotel to choose. Wife likes her comfort but I told to her remember this ain’t a trip to the Belagio in Vegas. Lol.

Any recommendations on what to avoid? Any help much appreciated. Trying to stay in the $250 a night range (if possible).

We would be there May 21-25, then off to a weeklong cruise.

What are you trying to do while you're there? For work, I stayed at the Merkur Colosseum and I could walk anywhere I wanted to (except work, lol). It's also walkable to Termini, so you can visit Nettuno, etc. Just don't get a room on the back side of the hotel where the dumpsters are, you'll be hearing glass breaking all night. Perfectly serviceable hotel, and great views out of your room if you're facing the Colosseum.

We spent 3 nighs in an AirBnB in Trastavere, and loved it. Great neighborhood and easy Uber into the city.

But an AirBnB doesn't have the creature comforts of a hotel, so that may not be what you are looking for

The terrace pantheon relais was very spacious and comfortable for my husband and I. Location was central and service was excellent.

My favorite is Hotel Nazionale near the Pantheon, on the same square the Italian Parliament building is on.

Any particular reason why?

Stated in a great apartment in trestavere this past summer. Room to spread out, convenience of a neighborhood with cafes, restaurants, etc.

I like all sorts of lodging but European hotels can really be a crap shoot. Exception is luxury properties but even those can leave a lot desired for the rooms.

2025 is Jubilee in Rome. There will be 10 million more people visiting Rome this year. It might be a little difficult to find a good room and it will be crowded.

I hope it works out for you. Good luck.

Best advice I got before heading to Rome- get a hotel that serves a breakfast and since you are going in late May, air condition.

That's Europe in general, and why I don't stay at off brand hotels. The Merkur is as off brand as I'd get, but at least it's like a European Hyatt where there are supposedly chain wide standards.

And make sure the A/C is on. Breakfast is less important in big cities, there's always a cafe of some sort around the corner. Unless it's some rando place in Poland, of course.

Bettoja Hotel Mediterraneo is where we stayed '22. Someone in our group picked it, his email said this was the criteria he chose it on:
• Proximity to train station (275 yards)
• 4-Star
• Proximity to sights of interest
• No prepay required
• Free cancellation

Worked fine for us, spent hardly any time there anyway because we were out getting it. I do remember it being fairly nice

Much to consider

So enjoyed our cross country drives across the good old USA where we could stop at most any place and be happy. lol.

This trip is getting VERY expensive but it’s a once in a lifetime deal. And after 53 years of marriage, I’m not gonna deny my pretty lady.

I think we may be on the same cruise my friend, the 7 night Greek isle cruise. It’s going to be one hell of a good time and definitely once in a lifetime. Have a great time man!

I have a suggestion for you. Go on YouTube and look up the Lainey Melnick Dream Vacations videos. She has a 4 hour long one on the exact cruise you are taking.

We’re heading to Rome before our Royal Caribbean cruise in May, and I’m looking for a good place to stay for about four nights. My wife likes comfort, but I keep reminding her this isn’t Vegas, so we’re trying to find something that’s nice but still reasonably priced. We’re hoping to stay around $250 a night, but not sure where to begin. If anyone has stayed somewhere in that price range recently, I’d love to hear your thoughts on what to avoid or where you had a good experience! We’ll be there from May 21-25, so any tips on location or hotels would be great.

My favorite, as mentioned above, is Hotel Nazionale.

Another place I enjoyed that was a little less expensive than that was Hotel Teatro di Pompeo, just off Campo de Fiore. It is built among the ruins of the old Theatre of Pompey (hence the name} which is where the Roman Senate was meeting when Brutis stabbed Julius Caesar there.
Also in that same complex is Hosteria Costanza, one of our favorite restaurants.
