I was surprised by her lack of a southern accent. The old lady from Missouri sounded more southern than her.

Southerners under 40 or so that grew up in metro areas seem to be a hit or miss in terms of retaining accents, especially if they have moved out of the region for work. It's a shame but a trend that will only amplify as our media sources are less localized.
