2013 was really good and came up short. 2008 was a year away but they had the big win streak. 2017 should have won though if Walker doesn’t get hurt.

1989 Team was pretty damn good, and loaded.

As awesome as the 2017 team was they weren’t really elite outside of Lange and poche. The fielding was above average but batting was the weakest link on the team.

1998. Cruised through the first 2 games in Omaha when the weather was warm. Cold front came through and it was cold and windy and lost 2 in a row to go home.

98 easily. The 3 peat was lined up. The weather change (along with having a 1 dimensional team) killed it.

2001 team is in the discussion based on talent alone. But, as we know, talent alone ain't ever enough.

That's a winner, right there.

But I am not sure I could properly pick. 2013 and 2017 jump out at me but recency bias is a real factor for that I think.

2017 Florida proved they were better than us that year.

They beat us 4 out of 5 times throughout the year. We can’t claim we were the best team that year.

I'll throw 2013 (57-11) and 2015 (54-12) teams into the ring

They won a shite TON of games in either season to end up with a cumulative 1 win in the CWS. From a record standpoint those are some of the best teams in our history.

We breezed through the regional and super regional going 5-0 both seasons.

The 1998 team that was up 2-0 in the winners bracket and lost twice to USC.

The assumption being if Walker hadn't got hurt is that we would've beaten them 2/3 in Omaha. That would've evened the head-to-head record for the year.

IIRC, Lange would've pitched in G3 and their ace, Faedo (sp?) was done.

What? That team had multiple future major league and triple A players, and LSU's all time hits leader. Josh Smith, Slaughter, Papierski, Deichmann, Zack Hess, Todd Peterson. This team was definitely elite.

2013 was a power hitting team that got neutralized by the move to TD Ameritrade. They must have had 100 pop outs in Omaha that year. Small ball was the way to go back then with the bigger park and the bats still being so shitty

we were 2nd in the conference in team hitting, 3rd in SLG, 2nd in OBP, and 2nd in runs. What in the actual frick are you talking about

That was a very balanced team. Why we lost was losing game 2 when Walker go hurt, having to come through the losers bracket, and then facing Florida's top pitchers with Lange never seeing the mound and Poche pitching game 2 on short rest. Florida was one of the worst hitting teams in the SEC that year and had marginally better pitching.

USC went on a hot streak, beat Florida, blew out MS State, took 2 from LSU and then hung 21 in the championship game.
