Growing up in the hometown of HEB makes you realize just how shitty tom thumb and Kroger are. Finally HEB is getting two locations close to grapevine.

Just get one of everything of their brand.

That Green Sauce: a creamy salsa made with jalapeños, poblanos, and green tomatoes.

Various HEB brand salsas

Jalapeno Saltines: have not tried yet, but will buy on next visit

Flour tortillas made in bakery are very popular, but perishables may not be a good buy if you are on a road trip.

If you like summer sausage they have it in the deli. I get them to slice it up and use for a snack.

As others have said - the fresh butter tortillas, their sauces are all good, and add avocado dip to the list

The best queso you will ever have - Meal Simple Tex-Mex Brisket Queso Dip

If you like root beer - they carry St Arnold’s Root Beer Soda

Live in New Orleans area now and truly do miss H-E-B.

I can pinpoint the moment I knew I was in a different level of Super Market in HEB. The first time I went to the one I visit when in Fort Worth area I noticed a open air display kitchen in the middle of the meat and produce area of the store. There was a chef with a microphone headset doing a live cooking show/demonstration with HEB brand products in the display kitchen that you could just walk up and watch and try samples of what he was making. I knew I wasn't in Brookshire's anymore

Their pre-marinated briskets are pretty good too.

I can't tell you how many jars of jelly and sauces I have bought over the years from that counter and those cooks, and I regret quite literally 0 of those transactions.

Salsa El Gallo habanero salsa in the bag. Taste like the salsa you would get from the taco trucks, spicy, and delicious. They have other milder flavors like their flame-roasted salsa which has great flavor as well. Also, HEB have great store-brand ice cream called creamy creations with unique flavors like creme brulee, banana nut, almond cocount, strawberry cookies and creme, etc.

They are one of the few places (I think) that carry Aaron Franklin's barbecue sauce. Grab a couple of bottles - especially if they have the espresso sauce.

HEB is GOAT.

If you're bringing a cooler (and as cold as it's been you may not need one), can see what meat specials they're having. Even if not, their brisket prices are good.

Beyond that:
Jalapeño Cheese Sausage (Opa's is better but HEB's is very good)
Blueberry Muffins
Texas Starry Night Ice Cream
HEB Texas BBQ Sauce (works well with brisket sandwiches)
Green Sauce
Tortillas
Mia Tiendas Steak Fajitas
Cafe Ole Cool Brew

Did our first HEB while down in Austin over the holidays. Talk about overwhelming...

Settled into our AirBNB that night then the wife and I woke up early to "grab a few things" for our stay while the kids slept in. We had no idea what to expect, other than our host had said, "Oh, we have a new HEB nearby which is great!."

So... we pull into the parking deck, take the elevator up, and are treated to what is basically the size and scale of a Sam's Club... except all groceries and a jillion things we wanted. On top of that, I'm with my wife who has a bad tendency to ADHD zone out in grocery stories and with too much stimulus.

At least 90 minutes later, we walked out of there with WAY more than we needed and kids who were up and wondering where TF we went.
