Anyone know anything about them or recommend them? My daughter(no pics, she’s 17 you horn dogs) wants one for college and I found one, but unsure about reliability and expensive to keep running. I had a really nice RAV4 picked out with all the bells and whistles. Thanks in advance.

German cars are notorious for having issues and also being expensive to fix.

Very expensive to own and operate. Super expensive to insure if the driver is 17. Parts are expensive, and BWM considers major issues like cam phasers and even parts of the bottom end as "wear items".
Run away and get her a Camry hybrid instead.
There's a lot of reasons that Tesla has replaced BMW in the driveway of so many yuppies. But one of the big ones would be that BMW's have become nearly as problematic and expensive to keep running as Jaguar/Land Rover.

I want to write this so you think about college towns and young girls

I have a 21 X5M and it’s going to be out of warranty soon. Everything is more expensive on those M cars for the most part.
I have different sized rims so can’t rotate. I get 15k out of a set of tires at 2k.
Not to mention that’s probably a lot of power for a 17 year old.

I wouldn't trust a 17 year old with an M3
And I second what everyone else said about cost of ownership and reliability issues
If you want your dashboard lit up like a Christmas tree then a BMW is the perfect car

Under warranty - hell yes
Out of warranty - every service will be an $800 sensor

How else will I over-compensate while pretending I’m driving on ze autobahn?

I know a transmission is around $13,000 from the dealership and $11,000 non-dealer with nearly a month lead-time to ship from Germany. Replaced my kid's 2 series with a Camry when the transmission repair was as much as the car value. It went out at 90,000 miles.

It's a nice car, but there's no way in hell I'd put one of my kids in one for 2 reasons:
The Ms are fast and she only needs a fast car if she's driving like a bat out of hell, unless she wants the badge for prestige and status. I wouldn't indulge either of those desires.
You are going to be on the hook to maintain it, which will be 4x or more than average and unless she's living with you it will be a chore getting her to bring it in for timely oil changes and maintenance to stave off bigger repairs.
If you've got money then maybe compromise with a regular 3 or 5 series but no way on the M.

You want to get your teenage daughter an M3? Why not a Porsche 911 Turbo S you chump?
Jfc just what the world needs another entitled Karen who thinks the world owes her the best just because she woke up this morning

What could possibly go wrong with a 17 year old with 500+ horsepower

The RAV4 is the logical choice. However, she already wants an M3, so she’s going to absolutely hate getting a RAV in comparison.
Congrats on the new M3. Keep us posted on maintenance.
