SMU and Indiana looked like they didn’t belong, then we watched a 10-2 SEC team get destroyed. The argument was never about Tennessee not belonging

Further down the list, Bama was blown out by a 6-6 Oklahoma team, manhandled by 6 win Vandy and lost to this Vol team that didn’t belong on the same field as the Buckeyes. Penn State, ND and OSU would destroy Bama.

South Carolina was the hottest team in football, but as Bill Parcels once said, “you are what your record says you are”.

Maimi - losses to GT, Syr and many close calls - nope.

Ole Miss - nope

BYU, Iowa State, Missouri - not a chance

Thinking the 4 host teams so far are pretty good and the best teams are still in play for the Natty.

You’re going to get the same stuff that you got with the 4 team playoff. Each year there are only going to be a few number of teams that actually have a chance to win a national championship. This year it’s probably 3 Big 10 teams and maybe Texas.

Homefield advantage has become insane with college football.

All playoff games should be at bowls

But not UGA, that beat them twice
Obviously you underestimate just how good of a coach Kirby Smart is

The difference between the top 4 and top 12 has always been a wide margin when it comes to being a championship team. I thought the playoffs should have been 8. I still think you see a couple blowout games

I think Kirby is a great coach. I think winning 3 games in a row against top 10 teams with your backup QB is going to be really hard though, that’s why I don’t include them. Honestly I probably wouldn’t have had Texas in that group before yesterday. I think there’s a gap between the #3 and #4 team.

That’s so convenient. Every sec Homer was beating their chest how the vols were going to crush the overrated big 10 Ohio state

Expanding the playoffs were about giving more teams chances. They got blown out and missed their chance this year.

I think it’s interesting that there arent many takes that this round actually makes the next round more compelling because the teams essentially earned that spot. Really I think the complaining about or critiquing this system are just being ridiculous.

I agree with this and I personally think it’s going to be Ohio State or Oregon vs. the Dawgs in the championship game.

Upsets have a lower probability of happening by definition so it may take multiple playoffs to see some.

The basketball tourney has 5x the amount of teams and most years will just have an upset here or there in the early rounds.

I wouldn't call them frauds. However, I never thought they had a chance to win the CFP trophy and I'm fairly certainly most people on this board didn't either. Ohio State has the most talented roster in the country and they finally put together a game last night we all knew they were capable of playing. They had no business losing to Michigan and probably should have beaten Oregon in round one.

The only people complaining are Alabama shills and SEC homers.

Disagree. It should be the exact opposite. Home games until the championship. Reward the teams that have a great regular season like every other sport does.

I think the complaining about the 12 team format is ridiculous as well, but the current setup does deserve some critique.

As it stands, there's no incentive to play a strong schedule. With the current format, power conferences are punished for being in a tougher conference, while the others are rewarded for being in weaker conferences.

What they should do starting next year is:
1) Conference champions still get an auto bid.
2) Once the field is set with the remaining teams by the committee, the teams should then be seeded by strength of schedule (conference champions should not necessarily receive an automatic bye)
3) The bracket is reseeded accordingly as the games are played so that the higher seeds play the lowest seed possible through every round.

This incentivizes winning your conference, but also incentivizes having a tougher SOS to ensure you are rewarded not only with the highest seed possible, but that with the reseeding rules, you are playing the lowest seed possible every round if and when you win.
