Has any QB drafted "on potential" every panned out? AR15, Levis, etc

If you look at Anthony Richardson's college stats, they are pretty bad 53% completion rate. Same for Will Levis, 2400 yards, 10 interceptions. Not horrible, but definitely not 1st or 2nd round stats. They are both now bottom of the NFL QBs.
Now take Joe Burrow and Jayden. Jayden set an all time FBS record for passer rating, 208, and I believe YPA, 11.6 against a Top 5 SOS. Burrow had absurd stats at LSU. And look at them now, both top 5 QBs. Burrow for sure is.
I'm a big advocate of how they perform in college relative to SOS is very likely how they perform in the NFL. Not always, but just never hear of a 50% same amount of TD as INTs in college become a hall of famer.

Josh Allen
But the list is short

Josh Allen. He had a good career at Wyoming, but he was drafted so high purely off his measurables and not from some great college career.

That's the first one I thought of. I thought he would be a failure due to accuracy issues.

Josh Allen. Patrick Mahomes. Lamar Jackson.

Tom Brady
Brett Favre wasn't great in college either

Patrick Mahomes.
Threw for a million yards and won a good amount of games at Texas Tech

Lamar Jackson.
Won the heisman and had Louisville in the national championship conversation

And taken at the end of the draft

It’s seemingly a crapshoot either way, but the guys that sucked in college surprisingly always suck in the NFL too. Why these teams continue to draft those guys so high is beyond me.

Led NCAA in yards and TDs. Obviously Tech has produced some high power offenses in the recent past. But he didn’t come out of nowhere.

Produced in college, obviously. Also was the last pick of the first round (compared to Richardson who did little in college and went 4th).

Now take Joe Burrow and Jayden.
#1 and #2 overall picks.
You're comparing apples to oranges here for the most part.

Sure. You're making a thread about the tier of QBs picked AFTER the guys you love are picked.

Lamar Jackson.

Brady doesn't really apply here. He was, at best, drafted as a backup. As late as he was, he was more likely just a camp arm. And his measurable were...not impressive

Joe Flacco. Dude played at like Delaware. Won a Super Bowl and is still in the league doing decently as of last season

One thing brady had was BALLS. You can measure a lot of things at the combine but you cant measure the size of a mans balls.

Richardson was taken 4th overall

And threw for over 4k yards in his last season

I think a lot of times the teams just have to make business decisions and draft these guys because no better options appear to exist, then send them out there and make the best and the NFL media plays along because there isn't much else they can do.
So we get sold on potential while the GM and team are just accepting awful QB play for a few years.
