According to
@AlbertBreer
, #Lions OC Ben Johnson has made it known that he will not “chase interviews” but will only take one with the intent of taking the job. To do so, he needs “organizational alignment” between HC and GM. Also, an assessment from the team as to what has gone wrong and how they’ll fix it.

I get that he basically gets to call his shots because he is the most sought after coordinator; but I wonder if this type of attitude may also turn off some teams.

It will, but I think the way he will look at it is:

If it turns the team off, they weren't the right team for him to begin with.

He could have picked any job he wanted last year. Supposedly his salary demands were crazy. Still he had more success this year snd now his star is even brighter. It’s good to be the king.

But yea the bears job is the best. Tons of offensive weapons and a few really good players on defense.

But the Bears organization is bad, and not well known for their self awareness

hopefully he looks at Gayle and says to himself that he would have complete control here like CSP did.

Awful ownership too. The fans hate the owner, they can’t hire the right guy to save their life. Lovie was the only good coach they’ve had in appx 30 years and they fired him. The bears imo is probably the best opportunity roster wise but if you read what is being reported he’s basically talking about them.

Yeah, he is either rightfully confident in his abilities or setting himself up to be a huge bust. The fact that he’s never been a head coach at any level is a significant risk for the teams that go after him.

Well….

Was their gm saying Eberflus is the next bill Belicheck and only needs more time lol?

Then have the owner emailing players and deciding to fire the coach behind the gms back and against his wishes? Sounds pretty dysfunctional to me….

To be clear I do not see us being the team that wins this but...

I could see if we offered him CSP's role...full control, some of his own people in scouting, and rely on the FO strictly for cap purposes, as that having appeal.

Full control for a guy that young

This isn’t new though. He turned down three interviews last year and will still be the top candidate this year, so I don’t think anyone is turned off. They’ll probably just peruse him harder and he’s going to get paid and maybe get personnel decisions

I'm convinced that Campbell has already sold Johnson on the Saints being the job he should take. I believe that sell was a component of why he didn't take any job last cycle. The Saints are a tremendous situation for a competent head coach. The front office and owner are basically just there to make numbers work, no real football centric person at that level of leadership. Leaving the Head Coach as the person having the greatest influence on roster/football decisions.

Not if a certain HC in Cincy gets canned. Which he should.. which would make that the more attractive job. The best QB and the best receiver in the league already on roster and an elite edge rusher.

Also, Idk if he wants to be in the North against the Lions honestly. I really think that would steer him away from Chicago but that’s just my opinion.

Well that makes perfect sense.

In other words, he wants to go to an organization that's serious about winning.

That actually work together.

I’m sure it will and I am sure he wants it to.

He doesn’t want to talk to a team that isn’t going to put him in the best spot to succeed.

On paper, roster wise, yes.

Cincy also has one of the worst, most notoriously cheap owner in all of sports.

He once gave the staff all rolexes as a Christmas gift.

They were fakes.

He's also gotta look at the division - winning that successfully buys you a lot of time and grace.

Do you want to go against tomlin or harbaugh 4x a year with cincy?

Or the onslaught of Detroit, gb, and minny for 6 games for Chicago.

Josh Allen x2 and who knows whatll happen with miami and tua, going to nyj.

We aren't a an attractive cap situation because we really are in a pseudo rebuild/retool. But if he's guaranteed 2 years to fix things without being canned, and has control, that's hard to pass up - if he's THAT good and hits on the draft this year he can win the south
