I'm surprised it took them this long to come up with something for this. I guess it was fairly infrequent enough to not resolve it or didn't happen in a game of that magnitude, but Lanning certainly wasn't the first person to do this

There was a loophole, it was exploited. I don't necessarily think it was a bad thing to close it.
If we can fix this midseason how come we can't fix Ole Miss faking injuries midseason though?

If we're changing rules mid-season, then go back to the old clock rules. New rules suck.

Or if you want to fine tune it: if you can get off the field without causing a game timeout, then you can go back in as soon as you're ready. If you cause the game to be stopped for your real or fake injury, sit out this drive and the next.
To say you're blind to the issues of officials being in that situation is dumb when there are ways to go about fixing it or putting in some sort of repercussions to discourage it.

To be fair I think we can all agree with the rule change as that loophole was pretty bullshite. Kind of like that one season where they made the game clock start on the kickoff once the kicker made contact with the ball rather than when/if a returner started to return the ball, I think it was Penn State (someone check me) that started intentionally being offsides and making sure it gets kicked to like the 5 so they can't do a touchback, and they ran the clock off the half without the other team running a play because their options were take the ball in shitty field position or accept the offsides and have them re-kick with less time each time. They changed the rule back the very next season and I think everyone was in agreement that it needed to revert.
I've clowned on Cryin' Ryan a bunch in the past but I agree with him here. Glad they cleaned the rule up

You can't, but when you have a player involved in the play, then gets ready to line up for the next play, and the sideline motions for him to fall down; there should be something done about that.
The tricky part is proving it. At this point in the season, what player on the field doesn't have some sort of nagging pain/injury they are playing through?

So if a QB gets a stinger that causes the trainers to come out and look at him, he should have to sit out two drives?

I'd favor something like that. You can preserve the injured player's eligibility by burning a timeout. Or the player has to sit out for some period of time

No, but you can change the rules to say if officials have to stop play for an injured player, that player has to sit out the remainder of that possession.
If a player was actually hurt, they probably shouldn't be coming back into the game 30 seconds after needing to be helped up off the field anyway.
