After south Alabama this week, we will officially into the meat of the schedule. During that stretch we are going to face some elite wideouts. Some of those wideouts include Tre Harris(628 yards 4 touchdowns in 4 games he’s having a ridiculous season ) and Ryan Williams ( 285 yards,
4tds ). Stamps will probably be called on matchup with these guys. As much as he has progressed do you think he has the ability to hang with elite SEC WR1’s?

On a contender? No. I don’t think he would even be CB2 on the most SEC teams. BUT he is young and has plenty of room to develop. I think he can be a very strong CB2 for us next season.

I don’t think the talent is there but I truly love the effort and energy he gives , he plays his arse off

He’s our guy. He’ll take some lumps, but continue to get better.

None of our CBs are "true" #1's

From what I’ve seen, Zy is the CB1 if he’s healthy. He is the only one I’ve seen who looks like a starter at corner for LSU. Stamps is a legit corner, though. He’d play in situations on some of our good defenses from 10 years ago.

Our defense is best if we have Stamps/Zy starting CB

No, he's not.

This is what happens when you start dipping below the standard for CBs in recruiting. Some these kids wouldn't even be a take 10 years.

In the past at LSU, kids like Stamps would outplay their HS rating because they sat behind and developed in a DB room full of 5-stars and highly rated 4-stars. Flott is a recent example of that.

Always in position. Rarely makes a play. Can’t get off blocks. A willing but weak tackler.

Just not physically gifted enough to be what we are used to seeing at DBU.

The recruiting services were right on this one — he’s a 3-star from Rummel.

He is competing and getting better but no he is not a CB1 right now. But he could take big strides at the end of the season with more experience and confidence and be something special next year. He has the talent just needs to learn the feel for the game to turn his head. Mo Claiborne and Corey Webster honestly were two of the best corners to turn their arse to bump the receiver and locate the ball to make a play. Instinct and technique.

Not even close. He gives good effort, but our defense is going to be torched in SEC play.

He is showing progress. Does he have room to get better? Sure. Then again, the same could be said for the entire secondary. Here’s to the notion that they’ll continue to get better. I’m not one to pass judgement on a player in September of their 2nd season.

Stamps plays good D, he’s just small. I know he wrecks for me in NCAA though

Not even close to being a true CB1. Ideally he would be battling to be in the 2-deep. He’s better than the 2 guys Ohio State cut and better at this point than Woodland who ideally would be redshirting.

Mo Claiborne was an unheralded recruit who received the disdain of some on this board when he was signed. Three years later : With the 14th pick in
the NFL draft the Dallas Cowboys select Mo Claiborne, CB from LSU. Stamps will likely be drafted or at worst be in someone's training camp.

The key to a good CB is the pass rush . Stamps is all world in practice in a game his inexperience shows he panics when the ball is in the air but he is always around the action he will improve it will come together but when you cannot buy experience.

Effort? You mean acting like he cant get off a block so he doesnt have the responsibility to tackle the runner

There is alot to be desired on this team but I have ZERO complaints about Stamps. Is he DBU shutdown CB level right now? No. But he competes and I think he has the ability to get there before his time in BR is done.

Stamps has the ability to be a good corner but he is still developing. He wasn’t an elite CB when he stepped on campus like PP or Stingley so he’s learning on the job. I think he’s getting better and might be a really good corner in year 3 or 4. That’s how bad our secondary recruiting got though with Ed. We had to hit the portal and start young guys like Stamps who just weren’t ready.

Then BK made some dumbass hires on defense his first year and here we are 3 years later still trying to scrape by. Safety is in worse shape imo.
