Most of these brothers who race like this are pretty cool dudes and are usually a distinct group from the gang crowd

This. These kids are not the drug crowd. They spend all their spare money on racing parts for their cars.
We ran up and down Choctaw and Florida in the late 90's. We always waited until after midnight when barely anyone was on the streets.
When the cops showed up, we'd all run and scatter only to meet back up in 30 minutes.
The only thing different, is we never shut down intersections to have a party and spin donuts.

I don’t normally go out late on Saturdays these days but last night was wall to wall drag racing and retarded drivers. Far far more than I normally see in BR.

Man when i was a kid we used to take the banshees out on Jeff hwy and race them. Also when harahan police had the trailer that posted your speed that you were going we would fly by those to see who was the fastest.

Maybe some of these groups are different than others, but the complete takeover regardless of traffic has been thuggish at times. The police responses have been a joke.
While growing up if we had a couple of people race it wasn’t an event for much more than the 2 involved, was away from neighborhoods, and usually on rarely used roads. Few people cared to go see it and were mainly interested in if they would get caught by cops. Or it was a complete joke race that was over before it started (that’s what she said). For cars on the roads the whole drifting, donuts, peeling out, racing, and whatever was seen as look at me or fake bravado trashy.
EDIT: have there been updates on the teenagers that were hanging out the windows when SUV rolled doing stuff like this (in Colorado maybe)? It looked like we were watching a few deaths or future amputees including the one just hanging there after car stopped rolling as it looked like she got rolled on, but then at least for a week it didn’t seem like anyone was killed. I quit looking for updates soon after and can’t remember where it took place.

Cops just got em in the Seigen, Perkins, highland area. I was enjoying a Sunday swim when they started that crap and about 10 minutes into it, sirens turned up.
