Put some traps out Saturday on the Island. Tide wasn’t the best but we still caught enough to boil. I used a smorgasbord of bail, fish heads, chicken wings, and shrimp heads, all mixed together. Was waiting to see what everyone else uses and finds works the best.

If I’ve got them then I’ll use trout carcasses, if not turkey necks.

Fish carcasses if I have them. If not, pogies or mullet are my next choice. I can get mullet at my dock most days, so that is what I go with if I don't have carcasses. Sometimes we have old chicken in the freezer and I will add that to the mix. We really buy too much chicken when it is on sale.

I've found Lady Fish work well. When I catch some in the cast net, I'll run a string through their mouth and gills, cut a few slits in their sides and throw them out for crabs. I'm sure they'd work in traps as well.

If you don't, catfish heads work well

I have never done well using hard heads for bait. Trout carcasses work well and I have always caught using chicken leg quarters. Buy the cheap 10 lb bag for $5-6 dollars and drop one in each trap.

We use Turkey necks because they cheap and string through the hole in middle. Find beef tongue if you can and use it. Bloody and tough.

Funny you say that because as a child, my uncle and I sat on a dock in pointe aux chene and caught a ton of them for crab lines. We did pretty good.

I don't know about Louisiana, but in Texas it is not legal to use game fish parts as bait. Dumb law, but I'm pretty sure I learned that somewhere, maybe the Texas game warden show.
