Why are cars not towed with no insurance ?

Driving back from Nola to BR the other day, I counted at least 7-8 vehicles on the side of the interstate with no insurance. What’s stopping someone from going an hour later after the cop leaves and driving it off. You think they give two shites about a ticket when they driving around without insurance.
The cop should stay there until it gets towed. At least make these frickers pay a $400-500 tow bill to get the car. Maybe they might start getting insurance then.

Same reason some crimes are not enforced or prosecuted: social justice.

Towing is at officers discretion on first offense in LA. Any thereafter it gets towed.
Also wrecker may not be available for a while in some cases.

In ATL, cops would spend half their shifts sitting next to empty cars on the side of the road.
Maybe if you could get a truck there in a few minutes then yeah do it.

Yes. You get a $100 fine for first time plus suspended registration. $500 for repeat offenses.

I'll post this here.
Where I live in Texas, i saw some non-police checking handicapped tags at HEB, so I stopped and chatted with them. Turns out they're a volunteer group that go to different parking lots to make sure the vehicles in those spots have legit tags.
They leave an official note on the ones that don't. I asked them if the notes are enforced, and they said that absolutely they are...Did my heart good to see this.

The ultimate goal should be to have drivers insured. Big fines and huge impoundment fees don't work. They will pay to get the car out of impound but won't have money left for insurance. So, they will drive uninsured.
The same with flags from the DMV, which are, for the most part, a government money grab.
The current system isn't working well.
I've heard of a state that the officers remove the license plate. To get the plate back from the law enforcement agency that removed the tag, you have to have proof of 90 days worth of paid up insurance. The law enforcement agency gets a small fee.

You seem a bit confused about the people who drive around with no insurance. They don’t give a F about carrying insurance, so why would they care about some $100 fine or continuing to drive after their registration is suspended? As OP said, they need to have their vehicles physically taken from them. Unfortunately, I don’t think what is being suggested is feasible for law enforcement personnel.

How do you know they didn’t have insurance?

I wonder how they are enforced though. Is it a warning noted in the system that if they come across the same car doing it again they can call a tow truck? I would think a tow truck should be able to get called whenever so no need for the first note.

Those are abandoned vehicles.

Yeah it’s good to say that until you get in a wreck with a no insurance and have to either pay out of pocket or hope you have uninsured motorist insurance. Which first is absolutely ridiculous that I have to pay insurance for someone else and secondly is absolutely a must have for Louisiana.

Last few times between New Orleans and Lafayette I've come across a spot with 2 or 3 abandoned vehicles, usually with blacked out windows, all parked one behind the other
Trunks prolly stuffed with dead bodies

Driving is a privilege, not a right.
Public transportation and rideshares exist for a reason.
Tow the car on the spot. The world needs more uninsured drivers off the road.
