Absolutely elite playmaker, passer and connector in a prospect. Not an elite athlete, defender. Perfect player to pair with Zion and Trey if his shot keeps developing.
Get that top 5 pick and let’s go

What player in the top 5 doesn’t fit with this team? Risaccher?

Unfortunately I don’t see a universe where Spurs pass on Topic. Won’t be able to get him at 5 or beyond something happens.

Sigh. Wemby with an elite passer to bigs.

Risaccher fits on every team. Can’t hurt having another 6’9 shooter. But I don’t think that’s the guy you get from a BI trade

I don’t really understand the Topic hype. He’s a mediocre athlete who is bad at defense and has not shown any real shooting potential. Even if he’s a great floor general and pretty good finisher, is that really all you’re getting with a top pick?

I just don’t see anything but another Dyson, except bad at defense, which is not ideal

In what world is Dyson a great floor general and pretty good finisher???

Dyson’s objectively an intelligent player who can pass well, he unfortunately played on this Pels team where 4 other guys work well with the ball in their hands, so he’s been relegated to a 3&D guy, and even then he still brought the ball up and got us into offense a good bit when he was in.

Finishing wise, he’s not incredible by any means and has famously missed some bunnies at times, but he’s shown flashes of creative finishes a good bit, and he’s shot > 50% from 2 ever since he was in the G league.

Topic is slightly smaller, less athletic, MUCH worse at defense and rebounding, and very possibly worse at shooting. Is Topic THAT much better at finishing and passing to make up for all that he lacks?

Yes dude he is. Topic is an offensive creator. Dyson is not that at all. On our team - Dyson is likely one of the worst finishing players on our team and absolutely struggles creating his own offense. Topic is not worse than Dyson at shooting. I can understand criticism for Topic but offensively comparing him to Dyson is way off. His offensive BB IQ is miles better than Dyson’s. I’m not really sure how you think offensively they’re remotely the same?

Topic may be my favorite player in this class.

Not really saying they play exactly the same, the Dyson comparison was really just because they both have good floor vision, listed as big PG’s (at least as prospects), and both had the inability to shoot 3s and midrange shots effectively. Those at the moment are facts, maybe things will change.

Topic’s main strengths seem to be driving/finishing and operating PnR, but he’s doing it against Adriatic League competition right now. He will absolutely get killed in the NBA if he doesn’t develop a 3 ball quickly, especially if he’s already a below average defender against below average competition.

Is that what we need next to Zion?

I mean there seems to be a need for another creator on this team and a so called PG. I’m not sure if Topic is the answer but hes an intriguing prospect.

I love Dyson, but he’s not Topic. Topic is light years ahead of Dyson in terms of playmaking. Much better passer, much better finisher, better in the pick and roll, and while not an elite athlete, he has a very quick first step and can get to the rim. Topic is also still 18.

If Topic’s perimeter shot develops, he’ll be an amazing offensive engine. If Dyson’s perimeter shot develops, he’ll be an amazing 3&D.

Now I don’t think that he fits perfectly with Zion, but I’d take him 2-3 after Sarr and probably Shepherd.
