Louisiana is one of the richest states for natural resources and has been producing oil and gas since the early 20th century. In addition, the state is located at the mouth of the largest river in the nation. Not to mention casinos, "sportsman's paradise", timber, and petrochemical industry. One would think that Louisiana would be ranked top 5 nationally for economic prosperity. However, somehow Louisiana is last or close to last in education, infrastructure, roads, etc. So what happened? We are overrun with crooks, bums, con men, and grifters running the state. Politicians, attorneys, and construction companies make billions of dollars funded by taxpayers and yet we continually elect career politicians and expect the next governor, senator, or parish president will be better than the last. So I pose the question, can Louisiana ever be fixed?

We elected a democrat governor because the opponent liked pussy then we followed it up by electing a retarded far right doofus who’s only concern is optics.

This state can’t be fixed.

What is wrong with it? And don't give me a bunch of statistics. People can come up with statistics to prove anything.

Only if they let Texas take over the day to day operations.

No due to population and culture.

We don't care about education, we accept to the point of embracing corruption, we legislate on socially conservative issues in a way that discourages out of state investment or talented younger people from moving, our middle age to elderly demographic are fiscally liberal in looking for their hand outs, and our major cities elect progressives who worsen the crime and cost of living issues there.

This isn't even getting to the issues that can't be fixed like natural disasters and infrastructure improvements being limited based on geological problems.

But we have great food, nice people, and amazing fishing.

Vote better.

With that said, the majority want handouts and free stuff and will keep voting the same way so common sense people are outnumbered in today's America.

No. But the silver lining is you have a chance that the rest of the country eventually sinks to your level (not intended to be a sea level joke, but a happy coincidence)

Of course it can. Anything is possible.

IMO, to do so, you'd have to fix two things:

1. Re-invent Education system
--- Primary and secondary education...make it so good that like other top states, private schools will more or less cease to exist
--- Make universities world class research orgs
--------- Model it after Research Triangle NC

2. Re-invent BTR and NO so they are sought-after places to live. Fix #1 and #2 is much easier.

Other states also have casinos, petrochemical and timber.

The whole sportsman’s paradise thing is completely over blown. The white tail hunting is vastly mismanaged. The quality of trophy bucks just isn’t there like it is in other states. This is from decades and decades of people with the “if it’s brown it’s down” mentality. In a nutshell the same reason Louisiana can’t have anything nice. The citizens ruin it. There’s just too many bad apples to the good apples. The good apples are fleeing in droves because there’s no reason to stay.

It’s honestly not much far off from California when you look at people just leaving due to government incompetence. Louisiana is just mostly red. This should prove that bad politics are bad politics. Side of the aisle doesn’t matter if it’s just that screwed up.
