re: How many people have gotten 15 years out of a car/truck?

Wife drives a 1996 Z71 pick up to work (40 miles round trip). Truck looks new and is very reliable. It has over 420k miles, though the motor was replaced with a nicer motor out of a Suburban.

I drive 15 year old vehicle all the time as a "drive to work" vehicle.

2010 Silverado at about 160K miles

I bought it in 2016 and it had about 70K miles when I bought it.

Still runs great. Got some cosmetic issues, but no issues mechanically.

I do plan on replacing it soon, but that's just because I'm ready to move on from it.

My grandfather bought a 1991 Ford truck brand new. I remember that because I was with him when he bought it. Like most things he owned, he took good care of it. When he died in 2001, my grandmother gave it to my cousin, who was starting up a business. He took good care of it, and it ran until 2021 before finally giving up the ghost. That thing was a workhorse and had a helluva run.

Mom had a '96 Camry that she bought new and traded it in on a 2011 Highlander. I think it had 160K-ish. Her Highlander has about 60K on it she always figured she would go back to a Camry when she stopped carrying grandkids around, but with the price of new ones, she's changed her mind.

My 2006 Jeep Grand Cherokee would probably still be kicking if my MIL hadn't let it sit and rot for the past 3 years. It's only got 165K on it, but I'm not sure if I want to put the money in it (4 tires, battery, fluids, wipers, etc) to see if it will still run or not. Last time we started it, it cranked right up with no trouble. Would be a great car for my 16 year old if it was still in decent shape.

I have a 2012 Honda Odyssey.

It is knocking on 12 years old. I bought it in 2020 with over 120k miles right before car prices went insane.

It has 240k miles now.

Only had to change the spark plugs and brake discs. I also had to change the alternator twice. Once for the factory one and another one because it was a crappy Autozone one.

It probably needs a new timing belt, but that is a dirty job and about a grand or 2.

2005 4runner going strong at 210K

I bought my 4WD V8 2006 4Runner in July 2013. She's still my daily driver and, other than routine maintenance, I've had zero trouble.

We've had several cars in the family last that long. Usually starts out with an older person driving it for 5 years or so and passing it down to a younger person. I had a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 that I got new when I was in college, and drove it for over 4 years. When I got out of grad school, my dad wanted to swap with me. He had bought it, and wanted a truck as a third vehicle, and swapped his SUV with me. He kept it around for a few years then gave it to one of my Uncles, who drove it daily for another 8-10 years or so before he traded it in. It was still running great, he just wanted a 4x4.

I also bought an 8 year old Jeep and drove it for about 6-7 more years, and only sold it because I needed more than 4 seats and my kids were getting older and the back seat is tiny in those old 2 door Wranglers.
