Saw a video that said 50% of people do not have an inner monologue. I honestly thought everybody had one. I have one. It is my voice and I can talk and say things in my head. If I want my voice to have an Arnold Schwarzenegger accent I can do it the same way I can try to talk out loud to try and sound like Arnold. My wife told me she does not have an inner monologue and I had to explain what it was. Basically saying things inside your head that nobody else can hear.

Yep. 50% of the time it's my thoughts, in my own voice. The other 50% it's a song. There's ALWAYS a song on the cranium radio.

I'm convinced anyone who doesn't have one is an NPC.

Yes, I just have to make sure the external PA is muted for 90% of the monologue. I honestly wonder if the majority of the 50% are men?! This seems like something men do more than women. Reminds me of the "I bet he's thinking about other women meme" where the husband is having an internal discussion of some off the wall topic while the wife gives him the stank eye.

Apparently a significant portion of the population actually thinks more in images than in words. Not sure if that’s the 50% without an inner monologue, but my brother is one of those people.

He tried to explain what it’s like, but i literally could not imagine that.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure it's Rodney Dangerfield's ghost trying to take me over.

I have an inner playlist. Around 10-15 songs that are triggered at random times.

Always use a soft A, even in your inner monologue.

People who are not able to have inner dialogue with themselves makes me nuts.

They are just reactionaries who wonder why the can't work out problems or be creative.

Inner dialogue just takes practice.

Yes, I’m constantly berating myself.

I’ve had that problem since I was a small child

Most of the time I'm the only person I enjoy talking to.

At some point I realized that my inner voice or conscience so to speak was divine in nature, as it is for everyone.

How do those people read? Is it not your inner monologue that says/reads the words from a book in your head? Or outside of reading they just don't have much going on?

I only recently learned this was a thing, and it’s unimaginable to me. 50% seems way high though. How does one “think” through things if it’s not your voice discussing it? I heard it’s more like abstract thoughts and not words and sentences.

I’ve known a few people in my life who talk outloud to themselves (normal people, not schizos talking to imaginary people).

It makes me wonder if they are doing so for the very idea that they can’t have an inner monologue, so maybe they have to vocalize to “hear it”.

What a crazy concept

I always just assumed everyone had it. Pretty wild that many don’t.

Question for those who don’t: are you confused af in movies and tv shows when the character is engaged in inner monologue? The show Scrubs comes to mind where Zach Braff was always talking to himself in his head.
