I have friend that is a CPA that does not imagine pictures or scenes when reading books? Just the words on a page. I wonder if it’s a CPA thing.
As a former CPA I’d say it has to do with the reading material. Not a lot of “picture” material when grinding through a Becker FAR book

Most of the time I'm the only person I enjoy talking to.

At some point I realized that my inner voice or conscience so to speak was divine in nature, as it is for everyone.

Yes, I’m constantly berating myself.

I have an inner playlist. Around 10-15 songs that are triggered at random times.

How do those people read? Is it not your inner monologue that says/reads the words from a book in your head? Or outside of reading they just don't have much going on?

man I'm just trying to get my inner voice to stfu

Saw a video that said 50% of people do not have an inner monologue
I only recently learned this was a thing, and it’s unimaginable to me. 50% seems way high though. How does one “think” through things if it’s not your voice discussing it? I heard it’s more like abstract thoughts and not words and sentences.
I’ve known a few people in my life who talk outloud to themselves (normal people, not schizos talking to imaginary people).
It makes me wonder if they are doing so for the very idea that they can’t have an inner monologue, so maybe they have to vocalize to “hear it”.
What a crazy concept

I don't imagine pictures when reading books. I do hear all the inner monologue voices. My imagination works in words and hardly ever in pictures. I am a CPA. LOL!
I cannot imagine my mind without conversations, monologues, songs, and sounds. I have to try to see a picture for it to happen.

This made me LOL! Although I guess now it's mostly online. But back then...classes and big arse books.

Doing so is part of the first steps of the meditative practices of several ancient spiritual traditions. It is a spiritual endeavor.
Training the mind to quiet itself is like trying to tame a wild animal, and that is how the process is allegorized in ancient scripture.
Peace of mind is the goal.

Do you have an inner monologue?

I always just assumed everyone had it. Pretty wild that many don’t.
Question for those who don’t: are you confused af in movies and tv shows when the character is engaged in inner monologue? The show Scrubs comes to mind where Zach Braff was always talking to himself in his head.

I'm constantly making fun of people in my head. Does that count? I crack myself up all the time.

You don’t have to say the words in your head to read. They teach you not to do this if you have taken a speed reading class. Saying the words slow you down. I have an inner monologue but I can just look at a word and know what it says. Example: if you see a stop sign you don’t say out loud “stop sign”. You just know it is a stop sign by looking at it.

How else would I keep myself from choking the ever living shite out of 1/2 the people that I interact with?

All day long. And apparently, it gets loud enough to be heard by others when I take a shower.
