No one ever suggests Couyon’s as a restaurant rec. I get it’s in port Allen(but only 10 minutes or so from campus if you pick and choose when to cross the bridge) but that’s top tier Cajun BBQ.
Anthony’s Italian Deli as consolation prize.

In Baton Rouge? If you’re planning to go the game, you’re already planning to do the only thing “you have to see.”

Don't listen to this guy. Anyone who thinks it's an easy drive from nola to baron rouge, any day of the week especially a friday, is clearly delusional ir hasn't been to the area since the 90s.
It’s literally one Goddamn road. Sure there will be some traffic. But that doesn’t make it a hard drive. Just more time consuming. And I would be willing to bet someone from L.A., or who has spent any appreciable time in L.A. County, would openly laugh at what we consider to be “heavy” freeway traffic

Here’s some advice, grab your popcorn, a hard hat, and take cover, prepare your self for all the Bombs the Nuss Buss will be dropping!

Legally, I think have to :)
Might be able to give you a more royal blue if that helps.

No, there's nothing there to see.
I’ve been to New Orleans a dozen times. Was talking about Baton Rouge.

Compton isn't so bad
Skid row however
Some pretty good restaurants around skid row. Parking is easy bc everyone is terrified about the homeless encampments. Also ironically that area might be still be among the most expensive parts of LA per sq foot.

Thanks! I’m not worrying about traffic. Traffic for us sadly is just a lifestyle choice. Think I will rent a car though. That said i hated LA traffic enough to once move a block from work so I didn’t have to deal with it… until I got a new job.

At least in L.A. there is a reason for the traffic (sheer numbers)
You’ll find that BR’s traffic problem is based around stupid people doing inexplicable things and very poorly planned infrastructure/construction projects. But even then it shouldn’t take you more than an hour and a half at worst from MSY. Once you get into BR proper, abandon the interstate as quickly as you can before you get to the I10/12 split. It’s a hellscape from there to the Mississippi River bridge downtown.
Eta: if you’ve already done NOLA before, I’d drive up to BR as early as your flights allow on Friday. It only gets worse as you get towards evening rush hour.

Don’t freak when you cross the Bonnet Carre.

Time is running out to see the USS Kidd docked in Baton Rouge before it heads down south to be repaired.
The Louisiana Naval War Memorial Commission announced on Monday, Jan. 15, that Thomas-Sea Marine Constructors LLC, of Houma, has been contracted to repair and restore the USS KIDD. The project is scheduled to start in April of 2024 and continue through May of 2025.
“Maintaining a museum ship takes more than money and expertise,” said Parks Stephenson, executive director of the USS KIDD Veterans Museum. “Keeping up with the demands of an aged historic vessel requires personal commitment and passion, like that demonstrated by the staff at the USS KIDD Veterans Museum. They manage and maintain the ship with a fervent sense of dedication. We are proud to partner with Thoma-Sea in extending the USS KIDD’s life for decades to come; thus, enabling her to be admired by future generations as a symbol of the patriotic values of the state of Louisiana and its citizens.”

I’d rent a car as opposed to the bus. I’d look for a hotel in downtown Baton Rouge. As far as bars, restaurants, and tailgating, you want to hang around the Northgate (The Chimes, The Varsity, The Revelry, Raul’s, Highland Coffee). Maybe, maybe venture to Walk On’s if you have your walking shoes. As far as tailgating, plow through the Parade Grounds and look for tailgates along Field House Dr adjacent to the Stadium (near the Indian Mounds and where the band marches down the hill).

If you're going to rent a car, I'd suggest stopping by a grocery store that has a styrofoam ice chest and load up whatever alcohol/cold snacks you feel like bringing. You'll find that almost every single LSU tailgate is extremely hospitable to opposing fans making their first trip to campus. Walking on campus you'll hear a ton of "Tiger Bait!" but they'll also offer their food to you if they're nice enough. Just drop the fact that it's your first time visiting and t most will want to make sure you try their food.
You can park on campus by the West Campus Apartments, the UREC, or the Hayfield lots (all free to park). Parking ON campus in paid spots really isn't convenient unless you have a tailgate to setup. When the time comes, I'll repost my maps I have made in the past to highlight local parking to access campus. LSU also does the same but they don't use a satellite view.
I'd suggest packing some frozen water bottles and letting them defrost in the car so that they're ready when you get back. Tiger Stadium charges for all concessions, including water. It's not like the Rose Bowl where they have those water stations and you can refill at will. 9/24 will be hot and muggy no matter what time of day it is.

Lod cook is a nice hotel, and the chimes is right around the corner. Plus a rental car parked there would be safe

Your Saturday plans should be set. Just plan on arriving to campus early, tailgating all day and then enjoying the game. The tailgate scene is enormous and hard to describe. Walk around campus and don't be afraid to chat up some tailgaters. They will be more than happy to share some food and drink.
So really you just need a plan for Friday. I would suggest going on a swamp tour. There are lots of choices between NO and BR that would fit nicely with your travel plans if you are renting a car. It's uniquely Louisiana and a great time. I've lived here my entire life and didn't go on a tour until recently. It was a blast. We did the Honey Island Swamp tour LINK / but there are lots of choices between BR and NO.
Hope you have a great trip

I drive from Kenner (location of the NOLA airport) to BR at least 3x/week and on gamedays leave around 9-10am to get to campus for a night game. As long as you don’t try to show up an hour before kickoff, the drive is very easy

When in BR:
You'll probably not need a drink spot but great vibes and libations here:
--- Craft beer: Tin Roof Brewing is excellent and they have really good live bands there under the patio area LINK /
---- Incredible cocktails: Brakes Bar is a tiny hideaway/speakeasy attached to one end of Spoke & Hub restaurant (do not eat there) - LINK - it's as good a cocktail program as anywhere in the South
Have lots of coozans in BR so a local could give you food ideas but I second the Mike Anderson's reco for seafood // This is a decent list of BR seafood options LINK /

Bus isn’t really an option. Rent a car because if you stay in BR, you’ll need it.
If you’ve never been to New Orleans, I’d recommend spending the day there Friday, then drive up in the evening.
For the game on Saturday, you’ll want to be on campus early. It’s a marathon, not a sprint. Get to campus early to park. Then explore. You’ll be invited to eat and drink.
