This Texas high school sounds pretty badass. We need these all over America

This is insane. A new high school outside Dallas dedicated 1/3 of their floor space to entrepreneurship.

The 1st floor is a mall, where 15+ local businesses set up shop so students can be mentored, apply for jobs & learn how to run a biz.

There's also a:

- recording studio
- photo studio
- makerspace innovation lab
- coding lab
- eSports lab
- 10,000 square foot theatre
- 7,000 seat arena

The on site businesses get a cheaper lease if they mentor students.

Floors 2-3 have normal HS classes

The school is becoming a template for other schools and is called Opportunity Central.

Better yet, this school cost a whopping $100 million LESS than a normal new high school.

The superintendent sounds like a hero. Imagine if more administrators had common sense like this:

“You can be the most knowledgeable veterinarian in the world but if you can’t run the veterinary hospital and the business side to it, you’re not going to be very successful long-term.”

It's all fun and games until DubSack Studios writes little Johnny up for failing to put some respect on the studio producers' names.

What planet are we on where high schools cost this much?

It's a good idea for some kids. My concern would be shuttling kids into jobs for the wrong reasons.

Also, I'd like to think if a person can get through vet school, they'd be able to do books etc and run a vet clinic.

They should have used that space for a shop teaching kids to be electricians, instrument techs, welders, plumbers, and HVAC repair. Shortages in all of these, and money is better than learning to troubleshoot kiosks at Mickey D’s

I have no problem with this as long as they continue to train the larger percentage that aren’t cut out to be entrepreneurs. From working in healthcare most doctors are not cut out to run a business.

You'd be surprised at how shitty some people are with money. I have a friend (cop) whose brother has hit him up for money because he's broke. The brother is a doctor.

Pump the brakes. The OC is directly across the street from my house. Not down the block or on the other side of town. I pull up the 4 way every day. Wife and I went there last Saturday. 3 restaurants open. 2 more closed. Several empty rooms. It is not a high school. Forney high school and north Forney high school are the only 2 high schools in Forney. It is a very large building with almost nothing going on inside.

That was exactly my question...how the hell much does a "normal" high school cost?

Is that why most vets are getting bought up by private equity firms?

Wait, that bullshite is in Fulshear? Please tell me I found the wrong Inspiration Blvd, right near the nearly brand new JR and High schools for Lamar?

WTF. I'll never buy a house in Fort Bend again, but I knew that already.

Expensive schools don't make y'alls kids smart. You paying more attention to their homework than their baseball and cheer schedules makes them smart.

Well, this is an entirely different reality than what the OP described.

The sad thing is that we already had all of that at one time. Somewhere along the way we figured it was a good idea to gut tech/vocational funding, and here we are.

My daughter’s HS was built 2 years ago and has a huge space for future nurses. My wife is a nurse and said they have nicer equipment than most colleges she has visited.
