The average nationwide time spent in the ED before getting discharged is two hours and 45 minutes.
But nearly half of US states exceed this, with Maryland having the longest hospital wait times - 247 minutes, just over four hours.

I remember as a kid going to the emergency room and waiting so long that the pain or sickness got better before they could even see me

I showed up at an ER with a towel around my shin where I had a gash that had a slab of meat folded over. I had pushed it back in its place, placed a towel around it, showed up in the ER with that bloody wrap. 2 hours later I told the desk clerk that I’m leaving without being seen. I got home, iced it, super glued the edges and it healed, albeit with a nice scar. All true!

One reason I love my hospital, no waits normally.

La. is 10th best. I've never had to wait more than 5 minutes in the ER.

This really depends on the hospital and the patient's condition. A local Catholic hospital I've gone to, was very fast, friendly and efficient.

I’ve had very minimal waits in Texas. In all fairness, I’ve never been unless it was for an emergency - an imminent threat to life or limb. A heart attack and an almost totally amputated finger.

I never wait at the catholic hospital in town. They let us in ahead of all the bums who don't have a doctor.

ER's are like the DMV. Take a number is what they believe in. They do not get in a hurry.

Illegal Immigrants use ER’s as their primary care doctor. Pretty sure you can rank the state by Illegal population and it will pretty much overlap with wait times. Problem is we don’t even know how many Illegal Immigrants are here.

The average income in the state of Maryland is the highest one in the U.S. Money doesn’t buy better services?

What brand of glue did you use?

I dare say, those individuals driving the per capita income go to John Hopkins and they aint waiting in a line

Every time I’ve had to go to the ER in Austin it’s been packed full of illegals.

I remember sitting next to a guy with a few gunshot wounds and he was just another guy waiting to be seen at the bottom of the list

Bullets don't get themselves out.
Usually.

I had severe burns. Went to the ER and they asked me what kind of gun I was shot with. A bit unnerving. But finally saw the doc from the burn unit. 1st, 2nd and. 3rd degree burns. But I’m feeling much better now.
