I believe the basic duty of care that was ignored was "Get your arse back to the boat by 3 pm. If you are not here, we will believe you met a local and got married.
Rules. They're not just for other people. Excursion around and find out.

Cruise ships just stay on schedule.
These passengers are some entitled biatches!
Be there on time or figure it out!

7 days into a 21 day cruise Africa would look very appealing. God that would be miserable. Three weeks in a floating hotel

Anyone who has been on a cruise will tell you that this is a huge no-no. The ship will wait if you are on an excursion booked through the cruise line, they will not wait for Willy's backwater tours to get you back to the port. I have zero sympathy for these people.

Yeah, theyre just entitled pricks who think the laws of cause and effect dont apply to them.

I’ve never seen a thread with so many of the exact same responses.
Everyone with senses (excluding the entitled passengers and apparently NBC) realize this is 100% their fault.
Even an OT contrarian couldn’t contort this story into anything but that.

Screw them. They were well told on day 1 not to be late. Projecting their fate back onto the cruise line is bullshite. Those people need to grow up instead of having the world wait on them.

When travelling in other many other countries, I've found that the clock doesn't work like it does in the US. Budget in extra hours if you have a hard deadline to make - maybe not a huge deal for a train, but def for a plane (and I would guess an ocean liner as well). It is just how things work. I've learned the hard way making low margin for error plans with regards to time.

I don’t see the problem here. I’ve never been on a cruise but know they will absolutely leave your arse behind if you’re not back when you’re supposed to be. And if you’re using vendors who are not organized by the cruise, you’re likely taking a big chance of getting left behind if it’s that close to departure.
Sounded like the passengers FAFO.

Well, it’s the 8 passengers fault.
Why is this a story?

There are a few around the world cruises. I know of one that did an entire year.

This is so dumb that these people are on this news crusade against this cruise ship. It is printed not only on all your personal paperwork, etc when you book the cruise, but also all over the boat when you get off that they leave on time and its your own responsibility to be back on the boat, no exceptions. These morons are basically parading around to the world that they are too stupid/lazy to follow basic rules and instructions and believe that the rules should be tailored to their benefit. frick these entitled pricks. Glad the boat did what they said they would.

No issue here. Don't be late back to the ship.

The intersection of Cruise and Africa is not ever going to be in my itinerary.
So I take it that booking the Trifecta of Cruise and Africa and Norovirus would also be off your itinerary?

Would he have left Norwegian nationals sitting on a Coast Guard tender beside the ship, when the ship hadn't lifted anchor?
