Green On Red - No Free Lunch
quote:
The boys got pretty good
At swinging those guitars
Chris had a red organ
He picked up from Mars
But a Mr Johnson came
And took their faith away
He said, "Meet me at the Denny's, boys."
No free lunch today
Well, we moved out to L.A
The city of hope and sin
But all ours friends were
Republicans or on heroin
Then we made a record
For a local company
We traded out souls
For guaranteed misery
There ain't no free lunch
No free lunch today
I'll buy you a steak
But I'll take it out your pay
You mind the gold
Cause it'll be mine one day
Cause there ain't no free lunch
No free lunch today

Kinks "The Moneygoround"
Robert owes half to Grenville
Who in turn gave half to Larry, who
Adored my instrumentals
And so he gave half to a foreign publisher
He took half the money
That was earned in some far distant land
Gave back half to Larry
And I end up with half of goodness knows what
Can somebody explain
Why things go on this way
I thought they were my friends
I can't believe it's me
I can't believe that I'm so green
Eyes down round and round
Let's all sit and watch the moneygoround
Everyone take a little bit here and a little bit there
Do they all deserve
Money from a song that they've never heard
They don't know the tune, and they don't know the words, but they don't give a damn
There's no end to it I'm in a pit and I'm stuck in it
The money goes round and around and around
And it comes out here
When they've all taken their share
I went to see a solicitor and my story was heard and the writs were served
On the verge of a nervous breakdown, I decided to fight right to the end
But if I ever get my money I'll be too old and grey to spend it
Oh, but life goes on and on, and no one ever wins
And time goes quickly by, just like the moneygoround
I only hope that I'll survive...

Chicago
Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young
Though your brother's bound and gagged
And they've chained him to a chair
Won't you please come to Chicago
Just to sing
In a land that's known as freedom
How can such a thing be fair
Won't you please come to Chicago
For the help we can bring
We can change the world -
Re-arrange the world
It's dying - to get better
Politicians sit yourself down,
There's nothing for you here
Won't you please come to Chicago
For a ride
Don't ask Jack to help you
Cause he'll turn the other ear
Won't you please come to Chicago
Or else join the other side
We can change the world -
Re-arrange the world
It's dying - if you believe in justice
It's dying - and if you believe in freedom
It's dying - let a man live it's own life
It's dying - rules and regulations, who needs them
Open up the door
Somehow people must be free
I hope the day comes soon
Won't you please come to Chicago
Show your face
From the bottom to the ocean
To the mountains of the moon
Won't you please come to Chicago
No one else can take your place
We can change the world - (Yes we can change the world)
Re-arrange the world
It's dying - if you believe in justice

Ballad Of A Thin Man- Bob Dylan
an incredibly snarky song, demeaning the pop music industry
journalists who were always writing shite about him.

The entire animals album is that.
Obviously against UK politicians, fricked up old hag in pigs is Margaret Thatcher. or maybe Whitehouse? I thought the song was about both or 3 different ones.
Bus stop rat bag
Ha, ha, charade you are
You fricked up old hag
Ha, ha, charade you are
You radiate cold shafts of broken glass
You're nearly a good laugh
Almost worth a quick grin
You like the feel of steel
You're hot stuff with a hatpin
And good fun with a hand gun
You're nearly a laugh
You're nearly a laugh
But you're really a cry

Tool - Ticks and Leeches
The label wanted something heavy and this was their response.
ETA: Backstory is they were at war with their label, which is one reason they didn't release anything for so long.

Suck and suck!
Sucking up all you can
Sucking up all you can suck and suck
Working up under my patience like a little tick
Fat little parasite (parasite)
Suck me dry
My fruit is bruised and borrowed
You thieving bastards
You have turned my blood cold and bitter
Beat my compassion black and blue
Hope this is what you wanted
Hope this is what you had in mind
'Cause this is what you're getting
I hope you're choking
I hope you choke on this
I hope you're choking
I hope you choke on this
Taken all I can, taken all I can, I can take
Taken all you can, taken all you can, we can take
Got nothing left to give to you
Blood-sucking parasitic little tick
Blood-sucking parasitic little
Blood-sucking parasitic little tick
Take what you want and then go
Hope this is what you wanted

"Rape Me" although it's a little too subtle.

Aaron Watson-Fencepost
It’s an anti-Nashville pop country song
“I’d rather be an old fence post from Texas than the king of Tennessee.”

It’s not my favorite Sturgill Simpson album, but I think Sound & Fury is entirely about the music industry. His last track on Sailor’s Guide to Earth feels anti-establishment to me too. Staying with that theme, I think Everclear’s,“Santa Monica” and Rage Against the Machine’s, “Wake Up” are good for blasting out your anger at the state of the world through speakers. I could name several other songs for this, but the first one I thought of was The Rolling Stones’, “Doo Doo Doo Doo Doo” (Heartbreaker). I don’t know if it counts, but Jagger sounds plenty mad at the world in it to me.
