My company hired a worthless consultant for a while, and he was a big guy, probably weighed 250 or more, and we were going to order pizza for working over lunch, and he said he would need a vegan pizza and I about fell out of my chair laughing.

They need to switch to vodka and become hard core alcoholics. Calories in / calories out.

I had a dental assistant that was Greek and was forever trying to lose weight.
I watched her make a salad for lunch. One whole head of iceberg lettuce, a block of feta cheese, a half cup of olive oil, olives peppers etc. she ate the whole thing and then drank all of the dressing she put in it.
She looked up at me and said “ I eat so healthy, I don’t know why I don’t lose weight”

What gives with these peeps? Know anyone like this? Thyroid issue? Genetics?
Unless you are following someone around every minute of the day you have no idea how many calories they are consuming.
These people are obviously gorging themselves on food when they get home, or are away from you.

I don't know how true it is, but I've definitely heard of women with PCOS and other issues who do CICO and have to go to like 1200 calories to lose weight.
Which, as any semi-active dude who has lost weight cutting out a few beers a week and still eating 2500+cal a day knows, would totally suck.

I drink a lot of beer.

I have a buddy who's about 5-10 240. He's lost a little weight in the past year as he joined this men's group where they do a high energy workout a couple times a week. Talks about how intense it is, how he's drained of energy, etc. Now he's signed up for the next level workouts with smaller group of the guys where there gonna ramp it up even more in the spring.
But his belly is still giant. He eats fast food every day for lunch at work and he and his fat arse wife rarely cook so they order out or hit a restaurant 4-5 times a week.
I've tried to talk to him about just changing his lunch habit...and he's like "it's much more expensive to make a healthy lunch than to eat fast food". He's a friend so I've tried to help him, but he won't listen.

stout Guinness every night
Guinness only has 125cal for a 12oz , not a whole lot more than an Ultra (relatively speaking in terms of beers) It has a low ABV at 4.2

Guinness as a super heavy, filling beer is one of those very widespread and commonplace beliefs that simply isn't true

Self control is key… I have none but that’s what the experts say.

Yep they are definitely getting up in the middle of the night going into the pantry sitting crisscross applesauce and devouring chocolate

real easy to make a "healthy" salad into a calorie buster. alot of people are eating a helluva lot more calorie with their salads than they think.
for example, i just looked up Applebee's grilled chicken caeser salad. 970 calories
a double quarter pounder from mcdonalds has 750 calories for reference.

I work in O&G.
80% of the people in my office are perpetually on a diet but still 50-100 lbs overweight.
They all order salads for lunch or bring little meal prep containers.
They must just binge eat as soon as they get home.

Depression. Between the actual symptoms and the treatment, you'll either be 25-40lbs overweight or 25-40lbs underweight.

There are rare conditions that can cause this type stuff, but for most people they are just eating too many calories.
And I say that as someone who knows he needs to work on his diet.

Yes, used to work with a girl that was huge like you're describing. Turned out she had a thyroid issue and is now probably 110 lbs or so.
