32 Hour Work Week

Bernie Sanders has proposed legislation to
Mandate a 32 hour work week instead of a 40 hour work week with no reduction in pay.
Sanders: 'Many of our people are exhausted. We work longest hours of any people in the industrialized world... I think it is time for a shortened work week'
Straw poll- yea or nay?

That's the established standard across the Pond.
32-hour work week as a national labor mandate.... why not? I think most burnt-out daily drudge workers would say it's a good thing.

In America, many people tie their whole identity to devoting their existences to making other people money by working absurd hours.
You’ll find tons of them who post on this board.

Of course, nay. It’s just another scheme to force a 25% pay raise and the hiring of more workers (and thus extending benefits to more people) to maintain the same man-hours worked/gross income over time for the business. It would just further exacerbate inflation.

20% decrease in productivity with no cost savings.
Bernie has NO understanding of basic economics

This is cute, coming from a man who's never truly worked a 40-hour work week.

Who cares how many hours someone is putting in. Businesses need people that work part time. It offers flexibility and lower rates.
However, the bigger factor is that most require 40 hours to be eligible for benefits. So this proposal would essentially make part time workers available for benefits.

The time Americans have invested is what made this country greater the rest. Now liberals and lazy people have reversed the course of a once great country

No one at a desk job actually works for 40 a week.

How is this enforceable short of passing a federal law AND then passing federal wage increase?
It'll never happen and it's ridiculous

Perhaps if more people actually used Sundays as days of rest, this wouldn't be a discussion.

This isn't aimed at desk workers. It's aimed at all workers. If you think prices are high now, wait until companies have to pay benefits for part-time employees

Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the LORD your God.
Just another assault on principles of God. Why don’t people like to work?

What could go wrong…..
Also, You think my work week would change? Nope. I had 60 hrs since last Friday…..on salary….
Also how do you enforce the “with no loss in pay” for hourly workers? What about workers with contracts? Union workers with contracts?
That would also mean a 4 day school day…. How will kids survive without free daycare and free lunch for another day

My weekend would start just after lunch. On Thursday.

I work on average 60 hours per week. I often feel burnt out.
How does this work? Are we in overtime after 32 instead of 40 hours?

Problem is there are not enough skilled workers as it is. Having them work less is going to slow down construction or just drive up the costs even more due to more OT.
Basically a 20% cut in productivity
And more manufacturing will go outside the US…..

Most 40 hr a week people already only work 32 hrs or less when you deduct their paid lunches and breaks.
